Trade Idea with the Ducks

Rate this topic

Let's say Modano doesn't sign with the Wings. How about this trade? Wings send Brad Stuart to Ducks (obviously Stuart has to waive NTC, but he loves Cali right?)

Wings get RFA rights to James Wisniewski, we also get Todd Marchant.

Ducks get a quality minutes eating veteran defensemen and more cap room to re-sign Bobby Ryan.

Wings get a young experienced defenseman who can smash people and is willing to drop the gloves. Wings also get a speedy verteran center good at killing penalties and forechecking. He also has an expiring contract after this season.

Thoughts?

what is the reason for Ducks to trade Wiskiewski's rights? They better sign him for ~ 2.0-2.5 per year. Why do we need Marchant? Bacause we once was 30 goals scorer? We already have one in Kris Draper. Finally, Stuart right now is better than Wisniewsi will ever be...

Marchant like I said kills penalties adds more speed to the team and he can win faceoffs. What's wrong with having another guy like that if say Modano doesn't sign here?

This thread should be titled "How to downgrade and get nothing in return".

Let me know the next time Stuart goes out and does this to a guy who was smashing our team all over the ice.

Our penalty kill is fine. What's wrong with having another guy if Modano doesn't sign here is that we don't need Modano in the first place. Abby will probably get the shaft. It's bad enough shafting him for Modano.

I think his NTC is up at the start of next season

Behind Nick Stuart is are best D-Man so no thanks.

I wouldn't say all that now. He has his times where he makes mistakes and they usually cost us big.

Oh... it's an enforcer thing. I get it now. Going back to the real Modano thread.

We'd have to get a LOT more than rights to an RFA who is reportedly looking for top-pair money and an aging role-player we don't need.

Like Wis signed for around $2.5 + someone like Brookbank or Chipchura + rights to either Fowler or Etem or a 1st rounder next year.

Well gee, I guess we ought to trade for this guy because he hit Doan that one time. Bon voyage, Stuie! :D

Whatever smartass. For a 26 year old he has a pretty good body of work. If Stuart was as "awesome" as some of you think he is, he wouldn't have been a vagabond traded by 4 teams before he ended up here.

Sure, I don't think Wiz sucks or anything. But he isn't better than Stuart, so I don't see how your idea is supposed to improve the Wings. I see Marchant there but the Wings have plenty of bottom six guys that are younger and need to get on the roster. So, your argument so far hasn't been very compelling.

As for Stuart's frequent flier miles, I prefer to think of it as teams seeing him as the missing piece at the deadline. It didn't always work because most deadline deals don't work, but it did end well once. I mean, are you unhappy with his play in Detroit?

People value players differently. In my eyes Stuart is way more valuable to this team than some think. He IS our 2nd best D-man most of the time. Wis can hit and fight but we don't need it. We also do not need an aging Marchant. He would just be adding something to this team that we already have a surplus on which is age.

If he wasn't any good we would never have got him in the first place.

I like Stuart but I don't think he is untradeable, I view the Wiz as a similar player who is also younger. The Marchant thing was just to add another piece that I think would fit and contribute for just this season(sort of like a Dallas Drake type) and he has an expiring contract as well.

He's four years younger, and not as good. If the Wings got into the habit of moving players for slightly younger, but inferior, versions of themselves they'd never win anything.

It's not like we're talking about once in a lifetime players here -- I like Stuie (and Wiz isn't bad either) but there will be plenty of other 2nd pairing Dmen out there when he's gone, there's no need to go out and get a younger replacement if it's not going to improve the team in the short term. Icing the best possible team right now should be their mission.

To be honest, I'd rather keep Stuart and move Rafalski but his $6mil cap hit doesn't make it as easy.

Rafalski's NTC will make it harder to trade him than his $6m cap hit.
