dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted July 15, 2010 (edited) The Wild have signed centre Mikko Koivu to a seven-year contract extension that could keep the franchise centre in Minnesota through the 2017-18 season. Maybe overpayment not sure just passing along info. Capgeek info. Edited July 16, 2010 by dragonballgtz
Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 15, 2010 Maybe overpayment not sure just passing along info. Wow, that's absurd. He's being paid more than Datsyuk.
Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Maybe overpayment not sure just passing along info. You're right, he's a good player but he's far too close to that $7mil salary range. Wow, that's absurd. He's being paid more than Datsyuk. Exactly, when teams make stupid signings like that it really screws up the market.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 How much can Modano make there if they're throwing around cash like this?
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Wow, that's absurd. He's being paid more than Datsyuk. I always thought of Datsyuk of an $7.5-$8m man myself so we have him at a darn good cap hit. They better hope Mikko pops out a few 100 point season
Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 wow....Mikko Koivu for 7 mil a year? yikes.Maybe 4 mil.Wicked overpayment there. That'll come back to bite them in the ass sooner or later.
HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Holy s***... this is just getting out of hand with these contracts. I mean he is a pretty talented player but he is more of a poor man's Adam Oates. Outrageous, Minnesota.
Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 How much can Modano make there if they're throwing around cash like this? Well they already have something like 15 forwards signed and 2.3 left. If anyone snatches Modano I would think it would be San Jose. They have 9 forwards, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies signed and have 6.1 to play with still. KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Minnesota = Fail ... what a waste of money 7 million is way too much, would of been better spent if they had let Koivu walk and grab Kovalchuk at least the guy can score 50. 1 xtrememachine1 reacted to this

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Maybe Modano too. Minnesota has a lot of forwards already under contract though.I don't think Modano will be in Minnesota next year.I'm thinking San Jose or Anaheim.

e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) Have you seen the way his deal is structured? Sources: Koivu's deal is 7 years, $47.25 million. $6.75 AAV, no-trade, 5 signing bonuses throughout. Richest deal in #mnwild history Check out the details : http://capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=925 EDIT: The copy/paste of the table didn't translate well. newfy 695 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Koivu is a very good player, but not that good. I guess its because Minny has money to spend. I think Koivu would be good aruond 5 million for that kid of term, not 7. Thats 2 million too high

Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 I'm pretty sure the Wild are just scared of losing another superstar. Losing Gaborik was a big hit to them. It's a lot like the Sabres and Vanek after Drury and Briere left. I know Vanek got an offer sheet, but same idea.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 "You look around the league at all the No. 1 centers in the league, and you ask yourself honestly, 'How many players are better than Mikko?'" said Wild GM Chuck Fletcher. "You look around the league at all the No. 1 centers in the league, and you ask yourself honestly, 'How many players are better than Mikko?'" said Wild GM Chuck Fletcher. Boy, I don't think he's going to like the answer to that question. Lets get the list going Datsyuk Zetterberg Crosby Malkin H. Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) Hold on a sec. $9M in the LAST year? ...Does that make sense to anyone? The reason it is backloaded is to make it easier to pay for the owner. 9 Million in 7 years will not be worth as much in terms of spending power as it is today. This is why most players want front-loaded contracts. Contrary to what Ben_USMC says on this site... inflation is very real.
