Hawkeytown? ...barf.

Two seasons ago, before their slogan was One Goal....

I kid you not, their slogan was "Red Rising". Can ANYONE explain this one? How does that make any sense whatsoever... Red Rising? Their name is the BLACKhawks... they literally have a COLOR in their own name... and they choose a completely DIFFERENT color, the color of their biggest opponents no less, to put directly into their slogan.

That was the year we won the cup btw, so I guess Red Rising worked.

If Chicago isn't careful, they could get sued for copyright/trademark infringement due to easy confusion with the Hockeytown trademark. It's obviously a play on the same word, and since it sounds similar, it could lead to confusion.

Microsoft did this successfully several years ago with a company called Mike Rowe Software- opened well after MS established themselves.

In listing the ways Chicago has blatantly ripped off the Wings, you all forgot to mention their style of play. They draft Kane and Toews (Datsyuk and Zetterberg, anyone?), then add Hossa. They change to a puck possession style of play and mimick virtually everything the Wings did for years.

They really are like a jealous little brother, only no one ever calls them out on it except for Wings fans. Bums.

For the last 15yrs or so, probably longer, the Wings have been the cream of the NHL. What stuns me is why someone hasn't tried to play the way we do sooner.

I find Hawkeytown a pretty clever play on words. Of course their blowing up due to the cap has made my summer.

From the looks of this and this, somebody's stealing from somebody else.

After looking at this , I don't see a "TM" mark next to the word.

While it's all but obvious that the Hawks have "mimiced" the Red Wings in some ways, or their fans have at least, you'd be an idiot not to deploy a type of free-flowing game when you have guys like Kane and Toews and Hossa. And the free flowing game puck possessional style isn't exclusive to the Red Wings alone, nor did they invent it.

This.

Imitation = sincerest form of flattery.

And also note that while Hawks/fans make fun of the Wings, Wings fans here either getting aggravated about it or keeping on talking about it just adds fuel to the fire and is possibly obsessive as well instead of letting this die off in the sunset.

If the goal is to keep piling on and adding fuel to the fire, then continue away I guess...

I had never heard of this. That is awesome.

The annoying little brother that tries but can't quite be like the big brother. I remember they even started blasting their goal horn 3 times instead of once. I wonder what other team they got that idea from?

Yeah and which team was the first team to use the goal horn in the NHL? Oh yeah it was the Hawks.

How is them drafting Kane and Toews comparable to the Wings drafting Datsyuk and Zetterber?

From this website we find this:

On Saturday, May 22, 2010, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for HAWKEYTOWN. This trademark is owned by Pekny, Michael D.

Pal, keep your ankles taped!

Wow, just wow! This isn't some small market like Florida or Carolina, this is Chicago! You'd think Chicago would have enough city ego and pride to think of their own thing, instead of copying Detroit. Sad, embarrassing, and pathetic if you ask me.

I wonder what Hawk fans are thinking.

You guys are just looking for something to whine about on the Hawks. I've never heard Hawkeytown used by a single Hawk fan or the organization. The Chicago Tribune has nothing to do with anything that matters related to the Hawks.

Well duh. They are our rivals, they won a Cup, sure we're upset… especially when their fanbase grasp a name eerily similar to ours. And put it on their championship video.

Sorry that bothers you. Stop chanting "Detroit sucks" when we aren't in town, and we'll look into getting over this.

LOL...I could tell you the fanbase will stop grasping a name eerily similar to yours, except we don't do that. Hard to stop doing something we never did, ya know?

As for Detroit sucks...nah that's gotta continue. It's too fun. You all should take that as a badge of honor anyway. I debate with a fellow Hawks fan at work about the Detroit sucks chant all the time. He takes it a bit too serious for what it is, as a few here seem to do. It's all harmless fun.

Eh, no. Hawkeytown sounds hokey to me. You won't ever hear me saying that.

Good to hear a Hawks fan say they don't like the name. Like I said in my earlier post, especially a city like yours, you don't need to copy anyone. Chicago is one of those cities that starts trends, doesn't have to follow them.
