How is it bad publicity? Baseball games get called on account of rain all the time and its reputation is no worse for wear.
And the loss of revenue is only really going to hurt those teams getting revenue sharing, and probably not a whole heck of a lot. Much of the WC classic merchandise is purchased before the game.

Money spent advertising is down the drain as well, and I'm sure that's quite a bit. Honestly, I don't know how it could result in bad publicity, but the media has their ways of spinning things. The Classic getting cancelled is good for no one.

Some are. Some aren't.

Some will be watching. Some have other plans. Some aren't interested in games that don't effect the Wings. Some don't care for the Pens and/or Caps. Some will sit in a corner with their arms folded across their chests and their lower lip stuck waaaaaaaay out, kicking their feet if they don't get enough attention because the league likes Sidney.

Some of us will be cheering for the Penguins because you know what happens to the winner of the Winter Classic. <heh heh heh heh heh>

I can't stand Crosby but this is the smart business move for the NHL for sure. The kid has been absolutely incredible this year. He plays with garbage linemates and puts up a streak that is unheard of in this era of hockey. The fact that he's even got a whiff of an all-time point streak top-10 in this time of defensive hockey is remarkable. The league has to capitalize on it. The Red Wings get national coverage because of their national appeal, too. It only makes $en$e.

That said, I did enjoy watching Sid's point streak end last night after the NHL's marketing campaign hedged their bets that it would still be going as of Saturday's game. Heh. Hopefully he shaves that ridiculous mustache now.

I was the one who originally brought up how it would be bad from a PR standpoint for this game to be cancelled. When I was questioned how, I admittedly didn't have a direct answer. I didn't want to make up some bulls*** reasons, I just think it wouldn't be good over all for the NHL for this game to be cancelled.

Crosby isn't the issue. Crosby's team being in the game for a second time, when many others have not had the chance, is the issue.

Interesting stat: Ovechkin and Crosby now have the exact same total for career points in the NHL (excluding playoffs) at 571. I wonder if Pierre will mention this as well as their junior stats during the game on Saturday.

I would actually like to read some sorta proof behind this. I believe it, and understand why, I just haven't seen anything saying this.

And you won't see anything official on it either. Leagues don't like to publically admit some of their teams are not marketable.
