cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 What a coincidence; both him and Brad May were on TSN's OTR today. 2 Hockeymom1960 and hillbillywingsfan reacted to this
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 How can anyone not love this one? What a game. I hated seeing the captain go down like that though, scary stuff. I wonder if the tryout is just to provide a little extra pressure for some of the other guys competing for a spot. 1 hillbillywingsfan reacted to this
Yellowknife Redwing 57 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 It's times like this that I wish Franzen knew how to fight so we could kill this conversation for good. Holland wants to add a 40 year old first-ballot hall of famer in a 3rd line scoring role for around a million bucks and people get all up in arms ("we're hindering the development of our kids!!" etc). Now a 35 year old washed up scrapper gets a tryout and people get excited. Downey's an awesome guy and he deserves to play hockey somewhere, but it's not worth the roster spot for him to be a pylon and take on the other team's goon once every 4 games. If you're going to pick a vet as your 13th forward, why not go with Maltby? 6 stevkrause, GoWings1905, redwings4life and 3 others reacted to this
Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 Stick him in GR on a 2way deal just incase we get the injury bug on the team again. Other than than he's got no business being on this team. 2 dragonballgtz and stevkrause reacted to this

Superman54 91 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 he said this on OTR. he mentioned that he took a year off to train, and Kenny had told him to come to camp. Hope the best for him, loved watching all his over energized shifts.

Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 if Downs has been trg for a year to beef up and get fitter then Ken should give him a chance to show him what hes still got. 2 way contract would be ideal, he did a good job with the Griffs in 08-09 he could look after the kids and come up when needed. Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 :carrot: Give him a 2-way contract at league minimum, let him play in his 40 games and use him as a black ace for the playoffs. This made my day

He was below Meech, Hartigan and probably Ritola on the depth chart.

If you're going to pick a vet as your 13th forward, why not go with Maltby? Simple, because Maltby doesn't scrap... and not much else good either. Maltby is pretty useless nowadays. Side note: It wasn't a dirty hit or anything but it is so nice to see Downey step up in that game. I loved to see Babs yelling too! Babs got heart and passion.
