I won't believe it until Thursday

Me either. But he is quoted as saying something about a "big announcement" on Thursday.

Updated the title of the thread, as it's still a "report". When/if further confirmation comes, we'll edit as needed.

This should, however, provide some excitement for what might be an otherwise boring Thursday!

Thursday is the 5th, the day he said he'd likely be sorting out his decision.

According to the Detroit Free Press Mike Modano WILL be signing with the wings! This gives us unparalleled depth for our first three lines and I just can't wait to see him score in red and white on Turco in a Blackhawks uniform!

Hey bro there's only ONE DatsyukianDeke13 on this board....and he is currently banned....LOL

On topic though, I've read on different sites that this is just a RUMOR. Modano is in Scotland right now and has yet to even skate. I would be surprised if a decision was made this week.

Me either. But he is quoted as saying something about a "big announcement" on Thursday.

hmm then maybe there is something to this...just out of curiousity, was he with Turco on vacation? dun dun dun

Anyone want to place bets on how long until we see the first "Modano sucks and is lazy" thread. :hehe:

This is a boom or bust signing, IMO. He'll get some chemistry going with Hudler and Cleary and it'll be a legitimate third scoring line, or our bottom six is in trouble again.

And out of Dallas...

http://www.dallasnew...o.171c7170.html

According to the Detroit Free Press, Mike Modano will join the Detroit Red Wings.

Modano, who has played all 22 years for the North Stars/Stars organization and has lived in Dallas since 1993, texted to the newspaper: "Big announcement Thursday." Sources confirmed the highest-scoring American-born player in NHL history will join Detroit.

Modano's parents still live in the Detroit area, but he knows it will be a big change in lifestyle to move. The fact the Red Wings are a veteran team also factored into his decision, he told SportsDayDFW.com last month.

"They are a group of 30-year-olds and not 20-year-olds, and I think that makes a difference,'' he said on July 20. "I do think I could fit in there.''

Detroit has offered Modano a one-year contract at $1.25 million to center the third line. Modano made $2.25 million last season for the Stars.

Gee, now you'll need to ***** and moan at the deadline about how we can't do anything to give you excitement; we'll have no cap space.

You'll complain about anything.

"Big announcement" is, Modano has decided to retire because his wife wants him to play in California or retire. He claims he wanted to play in Detroit, but he's too whipped. In other news, Kenny signs Arron Asham and Shane Hnidy.

Personally I hope this is true, as I believe it can be another great signing of an older player for the wings. You can never have too many snipers on your power play.

Anyone think he would wear #6? 9 flipped upside down.

Larry Aurie.

Not officially retired, but not worn in honor of Larry Aurie.
