Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) I haven't kept up with Pisani in the past few years, but if he still plays anything like he did with Edmonton in 06 playoffs, he's a good bargain at 500k. Nice bottom 6 player who can do a little if everything. I'd rather have him at 500k then Miller or Eaves at 850k. Edit: Pisani's scoring stats projected over 80 games- 16 points Miller's stats last year over 80 games-19 points While Miller had 3 more points last year, Piani in general faced tougher competition at even strength, all while playing with far inferior linemates and less playing time. If adjusted for these situational scenarios, there is no reason to think that Pisani would not have at least equaled Miller's overall production, and most probably would have surpassed it. In addition, Pisani's gaa for 60 minutes of Penatly Kill Time was below Miller's, while still playing on a drastically worse team. Say what you want to disagree, but it's hard to argue that Miller had that much of a better season to justify that pay raise. Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted August 18, 2010 He did however score 14goals for oilers in their 06 run did he not? Yeah, he had I think 18 points in 24 games, and was an absolute ***** to play against in that series. He's also had 2-3 15-20 goal seasons if I recall. He won't save the Hawks, but I like this signing... like a lot.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted August 18, 2010 Wonder why he would sign for league minimum though...
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted August 18, 2010 if he can stay healthy and the Collitis doesn't flare up, that's one hell of a bargain signing and could be a steal... this is a pretty damn good risk/reward signing, because if he's healthy, he's a border line top 6 guy and a great team guy from what I've read, but if he doesn't, they can IR him and it frees up the every penny of cap space they need and it's a league min contract anyways... pretty savvy signing actually imho
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted August 18, 2010 Wonder why he would sign for league minimum though... After a couple of solid seasons, the last few have been rather injury filled and below his normal level of play. Still, I think this is a great signing in terms of Risk Vs Reward. He won't hit 20 goals, but he can still be a solid thirdliner/decent pker on the Hawks, and would almost certainly be better than one of the other AHL scrubs. Here's a link from an Oiler's columnist who also thinks this could be a minor steal. http://communities.canada.com/edmontonjournal/blogs/hockey/archive/2010/08/18/the-signing-of-pisani-an-excellent-move-by-black-hawks.aspx

Hate to admit anything good about the Hawks, but this was a really smart move. I didn't even known Pisani was available. As mentioned, for 500k its a great signing based on his potential, and if he is hurt or sucks they can get rid of him easily enough. Also its one last roster spot that would need to be filled by a rookie. Good move, but we still own the central. 1 13dangledangle reacted to this
Guest mindfly Report post Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) I thought he was like 26 years old, turns out he's oldschool and 34.. yikes. Guest Heaten Report post Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) The guy barely played over 90 games the past 3-years combined. He's also a minus player combined for -22 just in the past 3 years while barely playing over 90 games. 2008 = 56 games 2009 = 38 games 2010 = 40 games Has he ever play a full a season? Great signing Chicago. Lol. Edited August 18, 2010 by Heaten 3 Jett1913, dobbles and TheDetroitRedWings reacted to this
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted August 19, 2010 I hate it when people talk about a signing by pointing out how a player played 4 or 5 seasons ago. Seriously? He may very well be good, I don't know. But when I hear "if so and so plays the way they did back in '06 or '07 (or even '03 I've heard), it's a good signing" that indicates that player has done nothing since then. 3 TheDetroitRedWings, mjlegend and dobbles reacted to this

Nothing much to see from this signing, good or bad.

How is pointing out previous success and ability in any way guaranteeing it to be a good signing? I was simply saying that before his injuries he was an effective third line player, and despite what the past few years have shown, it's not really out of the realm of possibility for him to return to part of his previous form. If the Wing's had had that mindset on players like Larry Murphy, Patrick Eaves or Dan Cleary, none would have become Wings. Seeing as the Hawks are essentially giving him AHL money, I fail to see how this is a bad signing in any way, as the rewards far outweigh the risks. No one said that they expected him to score 14 goals in 24 games like he did in the playoffs. If he can get his disease in check, he could very well be a good bottom 6 forward far more capable of any of the other AHL scrubs. Despite his horrific 5 on 5 stats, he WAS Edmonton's best forward PKer last year. Edited August 19, 2010 by EZBAKETHAGANGSTA

But when I hear "if so and so plays the way they did back in '06 or '07 (or even '03 I've heard), it's a good signing" that indicates that player has done nothing since then. The disease has made him a shadow of his former self. He was a good pest and plucky winger in his day, but that day is long gone. Kind of sad for both parties that this is what the Hawks are reduced to signing with all their cap troubles. My prediction on his line at the end of the year: 35 games, two goals, four assists, seven points, 12 PIM. At least he'll get to take part in the Cup banner raising. Yeah but look what team he was on. When you're part of a team, you have to take part of the blame for a team's failure as you would credit for its success. The Oilers were a bad team because they had no chemistry in their top six and no grit and desire in their bottom six. Their defence was laughable and their goaltending atrocious, aside from a few good early games from Khabby.
Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted August 19, 2010 Yeah but look what team he was on. He was 25th of 33 players in that category. And only played half the season. All I'm saying is Pisani's value is at an all time low, so I don't think of this signing as anything more than a long shot to bring back a guy who once had a great playoff performance at a dirt cheap price.
