Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 How does this solve their cap problems. They were already over, correct? Does this get them compliant or give them room for more acquisitions. Either way, good job getting someone to take him.

Either way, good job getting someone to take him. Why this doesn't count as circumventing the cap, I don't know. However, Chicago can loan Huet to the Swiss team and while still paying him, have his cap hit come off their books. 1 syntax reacted to this

swedishconnection 36 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 Yeah, this move will give them $1.5 million in cap room. They still need to add one more guy up front. I don't get it. So they can "allow" him to go Swiss, but they get cap relief? How the hell does that work? If that's the case can't we "loan" ritola to the elitserian? And if that's the case what makes any minor leagues any different than euro leagues? Why can't we loan Miller or ritola to the AHL, OHL, QMJHL to save roster space? Obviously I don't fancy myself an international hockey transfer specialist. Point being its crap that Chicago looks to be getting away with this. Taking Huet aside and saying " we will have no choice to bury you, so you should start looking elsewhere... besides it will help our cap too..." Anyway... good luck signing free agents of note... they are making a run at the champs... leafnation.

We can, they'd just have to clear waivers first (though the AHL is the only NA league we can loan players to, ECHL too for players on ELCs). While you can make a case maybe for something like one-way deals counting toward the cap (partially or in full) regardless of what league the player is in, no rule like that exists in the current CBA. This is really no different than waiving any other player, just in this case he happens to have a high salary. Chicago still has to pay the price, both the $5.6+ million salary (possibly for two years) and whatever flack they take for treating him this way. I'd say at the least Chicago will have to more generous handing out NMCs for a while, though they probably won't be in the market for any big FAs any time soon anyway. Sarava 55 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 Can't wait to see what free agents Chicago attracts in the future. Hawkeytown There's absolutely no ill will from the Huet camp towards the Hawks. In fact, his agent has gone out of his way to compliment the Hawks for trying as hard as they could to make it work for Huet. As has been said, the CBA doesn't allow contracts to be ripped up or renegotiated, and Huet's agent says Huet would have done that to stay in the NHL. Now whether they really would have done that if allowed is anyone's guess. But this will have zero affect on the Hawks and getting free agents in the future. cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 A player "loan" to a league in a country that the NHL doesn't have a "transfer agreement" with (I heard that this morning on TSN)? Or do the "transfer agreements" only deal with players coming from those countries?
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 From The Globe and Mail : ...Currently $4.1-million over the NHL’s salary cap, Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman has a plan in place that will see the defending champs sneak under just in time for the start of the 2010-11 season. To get there, the Blackhawks will have stay over the cap for at least another month. Twelve days before the NHL season begins, however, backup netminder Cristobal Huet’s $5.625-million (all currency U.S.) contract is eligible to be placed on waivers and “loaned” to another team ... ...While the arrangement has yet to be finalized, if he joins that team next month, Huet’s contract will no longer count against the cap and Chicago will be under by more than $1.5-million with 21 players under contract. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said Huet playing in Europe would be “no different than an assignment to the AHL” and is perfectly legal under the collective bargaining agreement. As with players sent to the minors, Chicago will have to pay Huet his full salary – although the Swiss team may pick up a portion of the contract. ... ...If Huet clears waivers and his deal with Fribourg-Gotteron is approved by the Blackhawks, he will join a cast of other former NHLers such as Michael Nylander, David Aebischer and Darius Kasparaitis that were loaned to European teams the past few years. Nylander’s case is the one that bears the closest resemblance to Huet’s situation. The veteran Swede signed a generous four-year, $19.5-million deal with the Washington Capitals in the summer of 2007, but fell out of favour with coach Bruce Boudreau and hasn’t played a game in the NHL since May, 2009. Unwanted any other NHL team at his salary, Nylander spent last season between the AHL and Finland while being paid $5.5-million. He is due another $3-million this season. ... Dave82RWS 41 Report post Posted August 24, 2010 :rotflmao: Why is that funny? The hawks have screwed around with players for the past 20 years, obviously with the old management mostly, and the guy that overpaid Huet and Campbell is long gone now. Then they sign a goalie who turned down more money and more years from another team just to play for the hawks, and whether Pisani or John Scott are even any good, they accepted much lower pay to play in Chicago as well. I guess we will have to wait till NEXT year to see if Huet moving to a swiss team will result in free agents NOT wanting to come to Chicago. Silliness. Yeah, this move will give them $1.5 million in cap room. They still need to add one more guy up front. Really???
