I've Never Wached Game 7 of the 2009 SCF...

I never saw it either. I had a church event that night so I recorded the game on a DVD. Fortunately, I inadvertently found out they lost so I never watched it. I drew a skull-and-cross-bones and wrote "Do Not Watch!" on the disc, although I decided keep it.

I still see occasional clips of Crosby with the Cup, but probably the best thing about the 'Hawks winning is that, because the NHL is riding high on that big-city bandwagon, they are pretty much eradicating the Crosby clips.

Despite not being a Wings fan I understand very painfully. I can't watch OT of game 6 of the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals and have to resort to closing the video before a Tampa Bay player slewfoots a Flame leading to the winning goal. I won't even look at Game 7.

6 years and I'm still easily pissed off.

'96 is the only one that comes close to 2009 for me. That horrible feeling, all summer, of "if this team isn't good enough to win the cup, what is?" I remember reading an interview with Yzerman saying that the summer of 96 was the low point of his career. He didn't want to go outside, he didn't have the desire to suit up and play hockey and try again to win it Obviously he did though :)

Well, he did play in the World Cup of hockey that very summer.

I was in the armpit of Ohio, Steubenville, that weekend (you could argue Ohio is just one big armpit but whatever). For those who don't know, that's about 30-45 minutes from Pittsburgh and everyone there is Pittsburgh sports fans. We went to the bar in the hotel we were staying at and immediately my wife and I had all sorts of things thrown at us. Tomatoes, fries, bottle caps, etc. After complaining to the staff at the bar, nothing happened. When I explained I didn't want to be within 500 miles of that god forsaken city and I was only there for a wedding, they still didn't give a s***. I watched the first period but I had to go back to my room to watch the rest of it. I turned the TV off right when Mr. Poop-pucks made the save on Lids. After the game, my sister-in-law's mother sent a case of Iron City beer to my room and the message said "we thought you could drown your sorrows with this". That was pretty funny; the rest of the story not so much.

Edit: I was just as pissed in 1995, except for I was only 9 years old and bawled my eyes out. I remember yelling at my dad that would never get to see the Wings win a Cup.

I did not watch the handshake or the lifting of the cup, and I don't plan on ever watching it. I also had to work that night at Motorcity Casino, I did however have Kenny Holland approach me and ask where he could find a quiet place to get a drink at though. I directed him to our nearest bar in the casino.

Edit: I caught alot of crap from everyone in my department that night. They know i'm a big Wings fan.

I watched, but pretty much already knew the outcome before it started. I mean, Buttman had already done everything in his power to assist the Pens, he sure as heck wasn't going to let them lose game 7. Actually game 7 was pretty well reff'd IMO. It was game three that really turned the series around. You know the game where the Pens skated for a good 30 seconds with an extra attacker, and then the linesman went to let them know they had too many men so the extra Pen could get off the ice. There were just too many things against us. From Gary setting up the schedule for back to backers on short rest, for a team that he (and everyone else) knew was depleted and tired. To the game 3 debacle, and the Pens getting the first PP in 6 out of 7 games, and getting more PP in 6 out of 7. The writing was on the wall for the SCF 09. Gary and his baby were going to raise the cup together. PERIOD!!! By the time game 7 rolled around our boys were worn out, and demoralized because they had seen first hand what was going on in front of them. 09 SCF almost made me stop watching the NHL altogether. I still refuse to watch the Pens. In hopes that I will not help their ratings. I know its silly. 09 SCF was one of the most disgusting displays of blatant corruption I have witnessed. IMO.

I watched the 2009 SCF Game 7 on the NHL Network not that long ago. Was it painful? Yes. Anytime you don't win your last game, its a sad ending to the season. Even in rec league hockey to me, its very tough to lose your last game of the season. No sense of getting your panties in a bunch about it though. Its hockey. Anyone can win on any given night. That night was the pens night and they deserved to win it. The Wings had 2 opportunities to close out the Pens and failed to do so.

I'm just wondering who here is old enough to be a Wings fan, or remember, before 1997? 2009 was bad, but as a fan since the late 1980's, it wasn't the worst for me. 1994, 1995, and 1996 was much worse.

After winning the cup, playoff defeats, for me, were easier to take.

I started really following the Wings around 94, but there was always Wings talk amongst my friends for as long as I can remember. I was in junior high in 95 and 96, and those playoffs were definitely painful, especially 95. Game 7 of the 2009 finals was ugly, but at least it went to a game 7. Watching the Wings get swept in 95 sucked.
