Lilja Contemplates Training Camp Invitation

Still surprised that no one has gone after him. Is he unwilling to take a pay cut for another team? His asking price for us was too high, but he's still a valuable Dman, I would have thought someone would have taken a chance on him by now.

I love Lils, but unless its a two-way contract, I just don't see how he fits in with us.

Well I think it is all about the head injury. Teams are scared to go after him a bet because of the length of time he was out for it. They are probably thinking 1 wrong hit and bam his out again.

He has got offers from the KHL as well... can't see how the family could cope with that though.

There's a plethora of experienced NHL'ers whom are still unsigned; some of them are arguably better than Lilja.

It's too bad that he over estimated his worth; Danny Markov part deux.

Danny Markov wanted an OBSCENE amount more than he was worth and was pretty much begging to go back to Russia... Lilja saw a crapfest like Lebda get 1.5 for 2 years and then, rightly so, thought he could get at LEAST the same, if not more considering how much better he is than Lebda and kinda backed himself into a corner, which he has gone on record of saying he wishes he had done things differently... this is hardly the same

States the Wings organization has tried to help out as much as they can and when asked if he would play in the AHL, he had not thought about it, yet added "you never know."

If he signs a 2 way deal here, that would be hands down the best depth signing of the off season...

I like Lilja, but I'm glad he rejected the initial offer and the Red Wings ended up with Salei instead. Salei is an upgrade over Lilja.

That being said, I feel bad for the guy. That's a tough position to be in and I hope he finds a situation that works well for him and his family.

If Holland can somehow land this guy in the Griffins it would be monumental for the development of our prospects down there (not to mention the best "depth" signing all year).

I agree. The Griffins really had problems last year due to lack of veteran leadership. A couple years ago they had McCarty, Downey, and Haydar to really help the team along and they were a contender. This year, they started with Nylander and really hit their stride when they came home and won 9 straight games. When Nylander left, I feel they really lost their veteran leadership.

This year, they will probably have Maltby, Meech, and maybe Lilja and another Red Wings player that may get sent down. This is great news for a team that is really searching for a guy that has NHL experience.

He should be paid no less money around the NHL than Lebda is currently set to make.

TO overpaid for Ledba, just like they did for Finger. Ledba also goes by the name:

“Oh F**K, another turnover!”

TO can have Apple Fritter

*points to signature just for you*

I actually think it is more the case that Lebda shouldn't be paid as much as Lilja. Just because TO was stupid and grossly overpaid for Lebda doesn't mean another team has to go out and overpay for Lilja.

To be honest if he wants to stay in the NHL, I don't think he has much choice.

I don't hold any ill will towards him wanting more of a role and/or more money. Natural selfishness that resides within pretty much everybody.

Now though realizing his options are short and his time is limited, his time is running out.

Why are you advocating to send Abdelkader to Toronto?

I'm wondering this as well.

Apple Fritter... Apple Turnover... Lebda turned the puck over many times aka being called a turnover/fritter. Play on words.

Abby is Abby or Alligator to me.

Markov didn't get resigned because he wanted a multiyear contract, not because of the amount of money. Holland stated we could have afforded him on a 1 year contract (it was the year we had all the cap space), but not on 2+ year deal
