Lilja gets training camp invitation to Sharks

As of yesterday SJ sent 2 more defensemen to the minors. Lilja is still on the training camp roster. Camp roster

Not sure about the order that they list the guys, but he is the 5th one, so maybe he's got a chance yet. :)

I watched the game on NHL network last night and he looked solid, 15mins played, +1 rating and looked very solid on the PK... which was needed because VAN scored at least one PP goal when he wasn't on the ice and I don't think he was on the ice for the other PP goal against either...

1 assist tonight :)

Kind of aggravates the reality of Ericsson's play as of recent.

I know, I know. It's the pre-season.

I expect the level of play to differ significantly by the time we're 20 games into the regular season. In Ericsson's case, hopefully a difference for the better. Hope hope hope. Oh please God make him play well.

Looks like he may be getting a contract.

Also, look at the Google Translation in the second blue box insert.

Good, he's earned it and belongs in the NHL... he could end up being a very steadying force on their blueline and has looked VERY solid out there for them this preseason...

Also, that translation... um... what?!?!?

I would laugh my friggin' ass off if Lils got a contract with the Sharks and had a better year than Ericsson.

Apples to oranges. Lilja is the better player at this point, but he's almost a decade older than Ericsson. Retaining E isn't just about this season and how he would stack up against Lilja in SJ.

That being said, I do wish Lilja all the best. I've been one of those people supporting him a year or so before it became trendy on LGW. The guy is as solid of a bottom pairing guy as a team in this salary-capped NHL could get.

I'm not saying this is a Quincey situation (OMG WE LOST QUINCEY NUUU). I'm just saying the fact that Lilja was considered useless by this board and that Ericsson's higher ceiling would mean he would have to improve this season makes me want to see him thrive in San Jose (assuming he gets a contraact).

It would be great to see Lilja say "See? I was worth SOMETHING good" with his performance this season.
