Draper Pulls the ol' Groin

TRAVERSE CITY -- Detroit Red Wings forward Kris Draper pulled his groin early in a scrimmage Saturday during the first day of training camp at Centre I.C.E. Arena.

Draper didn't return after playing a couple of shifts. The club wasn't sure of the extent of the injury but is being cautious.

"Is that two weeks or 10 days or 10 games, I don't know,'' coach Mike Babcock said.

“No matter how hard you trained or how hard you worked over the summer, these first couple of days in camp are always tough on your groins and hip flexors. We want to be smart with that.’’

So much for Drapes cracking the lineup (at least at the beginning of the season).

Okay, that sucks. I hope it's an isolated incident though, and we don't see a rash of groin injuries all of a sudden. Last season our roster resembled an emergency room more than a hockey team.

I do hope he recovers quickly and can rejoin the team.

Let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill. Groin pulls in training camp are very common.

The first thing that I thought of was that maybe that will make room for the supposedly new and improved Aaron Downey. It'd be great to have him as a reserve forward. But Draper's problem isn't that bad I'm guessing.

EDIT: Or perhaps even better, they'll be able to keep Miller and Ritola.

I hope Downey makes the team. We need an enforcer

In terms of health, any idea as to how Zetterberg is doing? Is he at 100%? I feel like a lot of the times he's injured and we don't know it because he just plays through it. It'd be nice if he could officially be at full health.
