Guest Howard He Do It?!

I want the PS3 app :(

One of my main reasons for buying it.. I'm sure it'll be on soon enough this week.

I read online that the PS3 store is updated on Tuesday's. Maybe we will see it then.

Just got this response from GCL customer service. Seems auto-generated to me.

We hope to have these apps available within the next 6 weeks. Please check back regularly for availability.

The following internet-capable devices will have applications for GameCenter Live and NHL Vault this season:

Playstation 3, Roku, Boxee, iPad, Sony Bravia Blu-Ray players

An existing GameCenter Live subscription for the computer will be required, but you can link your account to these devices via the apps, which can be downloaded from the respective application or network stores.

Please note, the applications for Bravia and iPad will only have access to NHL Vault on-demand content (archives, classic games, condensed games), live game video will be added to the iPad app later this season.

NHL Web Support

Not exactly October 7th.

We use predetermined replies to answer commonly asked questions, it is almost universal among support.

As for the issue at hand, our (Neulion) original plan was to submit the app to Sony Computer Entertainment Inc for final approval and release today, but the PS3 app we developed has not been approved by SCEI, and the re-submittal process could take as long as 6 weeks, so that is why the reply said what it did.

Sorry :unhappy:

I hope it doesn't take 6 weeks. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I recently noticed that GCL is now available on select Android phones on Verizon Wireless. Is there a way to get free streaming to my phone since I am already a subscriber online or do I have to pay another $80 for the streaming app?

Thinking about buying so I can watch games during this Fox dispute with DISH.

- Is there is "subject to blackouts" listed on their TOS. How does that work? Are games blacked out? I'm in Michigan and can't watch Fox because of the DISH fiscal.

- How is the streaming quality. Is there a place I can watch a sample of streaming without registering?

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Game Center support and the game will be, in fact. blacked out in my area in Michigan. So Game Center is not even an option for me.

Since you are in Michigan all Red Wings games will be blacked out. All games on NBC, Versus and NHLN will be blacked out as well.

I'm glad I came across this thread.

I live in NYC and have to buy Center Ice every year but Time Warner will only show 2 games at a time in HD(2 of 12 Center Ice channels are HD. Watching in standard definition on my LED looks like crap so I'm considering the Gamecenter to have consistent quality. Is it close to HD?

The video is encoded from a 720p source, and streamed at bitrates of 400, 800, 1600, and 3000 kbps. As long as your CPU and RAM are above the requirements and you have enough bandwidth, you can view at maximum quality, which is pretty close to HD television.

Also, there will be a free preview on Monday the 11th. The Wings aren't playing but you can try out the site and get a feel for how it performs.

I'm still having problems seeing live action. It's fine if I go through the link at the bottom of the confirmation email. But if I google nhl gamecenter, go to the page, login and launch the player, I only get the classic/condensed games. I'm on firefox and cleared out history/cache/cookies but it didn't help. I saw some other people having the same problem the other day. anyone get it to work?

McAwesome- I subscribed a couple weeks ago, but I was wondering why, when you have scores selected to "OFF", they would put "FINAL SO" or "FINAL OT" on the menu? Kind makes the rest of the game pointless, ehh?

GCL was a lot smoother tonight compared to last night.

In the new GCL interface when I click Vault it leads me to a page that wants me to sign up for $4.95 a month. Isn't the Vault included in the GCL subscription?

I agree with your point about GCL running better this year. Absolutely no slow down at any point, even at the highest bitrate. Just like watching it on TV really.

I also fixed the problem I was having with firefox, just needed to update the flash player.

This will be addressed with the next batch of updates, probably early next week.

Vault is included, in the top right-hand corner of the signup page for Vault there will be a link, it will either say "Already Registered? Sign In" or "Go to NHL GameCenter Livetm" which if you click will either take you to the login (which will look like last year's GameCenter Live login) or to the Launch page.

It still says GameCenter Live on the pages and in the URLs for Vault, that will also be addressed during the next batch of updates.

looked pretty good on my end. tho when i maximized it and made it full screen the sound was going all f***ed up and it was getting really choppy.

my monitors 25". but when its a little smaller then fullscreen it runs nice and smooth, pretty clear.

Try changing a setting in Flash, right-click on the video and select Settings, then uncheck Enable Hardware Acceleration, this usually clears up any choppiness at full screen.

Thanks for the info. Will the update be including improvements to the chats? The windows are awfully small and hard to follow.

Do you know anything about the new Android apps? Do I have to pay if I want streaming on my phone even though I subscribe online? Thanks again.

Turns out that for once, the European version may actually be better. I paid £69.99 for it (don't know current exchange rates to understand how much that is in $) and I get every game, including playoffs it says. Don't know if that's because its through ESPN and they don't have to restrict themselves with blackouts and national broadcasts, but watching it since Thursday its great! Games being on a little late over here the 'on demand' feature is great. I just watched Mo's first goal quite a lot the day after it happened (I did see it live but fell asleep about an hour later). Anyway, would recommend it!

Any word on the PS3 app?

Yep. Turns out the NHL waited until the very first day of the season to submit their application to Sony for approval and, ofcourse, it was rejected. Supposedly there were a few things that didn't meet Sony's minnimum regulations and now the NHL can't resubmit approval for the app for at least SIX weeks. So, were looking at late November at the earliest. Sucks, I know.

The 6 weeks is the possible maximum amount of time that it can take to be approved, not a minimum.

We have been getting lot of requests about the chat, so we have asked our developers to increase the size and add back some of the functionality that was taken out from last year. The Android app requires a separate subscription, you actually buy it directly from Android Market, not from NHL.com, so you would have to buy both if you wanted to watch on your computer an phone.

Not entirely true, we submitted it well before the start of the season, we just did not hear back from Sony until the first day of the seaso.

Apparently I have a free trial of NHL Center Ice until October 24th. The Rangers-Islander and Ducks-Blues are on, the the Pen-Devils are coming up at 4:00. I get the OHL games for free until October 24th too.

Personally I'd never buy Center Ice, outside of the Red Wings games, I have no interest in having every NHL game on TV. Even the Red Wings games, I'd never watch them all. If there's a game I really want to see, I can find it on channelsurfing.net

This is my complaint with the NHL. They are looking to make money off of every medium.

Want to watch this stuff on TV? Its $160 for Center Ice.

Want to watch this stuff on the computer? Its $160 for gamecenter live.

Want to watch this stuff on your mobile device? Its $80 for the app.

If you subscribe to NBA league pass, you get the computer streaming as part of the deal. I wish the NHL would at least do this.

I know with some Canadian providers that you get GCL for free when you subscribe to Center Ice. I'm not sure why that is though.
