And how many of those teams that won 4 stanley cups had an enforcer on them? I'll give you a hint, it starts with f and ends with our

An enforcer that can't skate or contribute at all besides fists? Zero.

Well whaddaya know.

Point still stands.

In your mind maybe, in reality I'm not sure about it. This is not about Downey, I don't care about Downey. He was finished 2 years ago... I wasn't expecting much (anything) from him. This is about Detroit with no TOUGHNESS. Something that was a problem (even Holland said that he will go after enforcer and Dallas Drake type of player)... and nothing... I don't know if you realize but this is the WEAKEST team in the NHL right now...

Salei, Ericsson, Stuart, Abdelkader, and Bertuzzi are more then enough you don't need to fight to be tough.

I'm not worried.

How many of those teams make the playoffs for 20 straight years and have 4 cups in 12 years?

I'll trust Holland over any other GM.

Fighting is only useful for entertainment purposes, I'd like a fighter on the team just because it's fun to watch, not because it helps the team win.

No! We're screwed! Stop arguing that the team will do anything this year!!!

:D

Why don't you ask them?

Perhaps many GMs still would like to keep the flies off, but does it honestly show in this day and age? The instigator keeps players from being forced to fight. Guys like Cooke honestly have nothing to worry about. Enforcers who do nothing BUT fight have very little value in the league. What happened to Laraque? Why does Brad May have to try out for teams?

Give me a guy who plays a physical game (Stevens or Konstantinov) over some guy who is going to fight another player AFTER THE FACT. From what I have seen the enforcers rarely make a difference in the danger to the star players of a team.

Didn't they both get roughing majors?

Laraque wasn't interested to fight anymore...

Brad May had to try out because of his AGE - he was 38 (edit) years old... and pretty much every team in NHL has at least 1 ENFORCER who's playing on regular bases.

I don't think the Capitals have one.

Wrong, they have KING, BRADLEY, ERSKINE...

King wasn't there last season, and I doubt he'll play much this season. Bradley and Erskine are not enforcers. Bradley is able to contribute offensively--he scored ten goals last year--and Erskine does not fight very much and is a capable defenseman.

Players like Downey cannot defend or score.

King wasn't there last season - so what? This season he's there. He's going to play, why, look at east conference, thay have no choice but to play him. Sorry but Erskine is HW fighter. He changed his role but you can ask Lucic if Erskine is a good fighter. Bradley can play and fight (and he's true RW).

I'm going to repeat it - this isn't at all about Downey. I wasn't expecting nothing from him.

Erskine has averaged four fights per year over the past four seasons. That's not an enforcer.

The Capitals lacked an enforcer last season and won the President's Trophy, just as the Wings often do. King may or may not play a significant amount of time this season.

Wings release Aaron Downey

Oh.

Wings don't need Downey, or any player that plays like him. End of story.

Sorry Carman but you are just proving that you are stupid...

Nice to resort to petty insults. I won't be able to sleep.

Holland is a great GM, I trust that he knows what's best.

I don't think the Red Wings are going to suck because they don't have a player that plays 3 minutes a night and punches people.

In 2006 he had 13 fights. As I said he changed his style of play - that's why he'S fighting less, but as you can see it - he'S fighting with HW, Laraque, Boulton, Peters etc...

Also let'S not forget that they had Brashear, Sutherby... so there was no really need for Erskine to fight.

One thing is sure - Caps are tougher than Detroit.

That was 2006. Now is now. You're supporting my point.

They had neither last season, and Erskine still had only four fights. They nevertheless had the best regular season in team history.

One thing is sure - Caps are tougher than Detroit.

I don't get how this is important. You claimed that every single team uses a Downey-like player. Washington did not have one last year, and they were enormously successful.

You proved a lot with your previous statements...

You are basing my intelligence on forum posts that disagree with your views regarding enforcers and their role in hockey .

Something is telling me that doesn't seem to be the best way to judge my intellectual ability.

I said that this Detroit edition 2010/2011 will be the SOFTEST ever... No I didn't wanted Downey, there were a lot of better options than him out there.

Enforcer doesn't means Downey type of player... There is Thornton type of enforcer (who plays on PK and can score some goals)

Did anyone watch the game last year when May fought Boll? Boll was taking runs at Dats, Raffy, etc all game until May forced the issue. After the fight, Boll was playing less recklessly. Does this mean an enforcer will prevent all cheap-shot? No. But they are often successful in stopping a player from continuing their reckless play.

Those are kind of statements which are "poor". I told you that you are stupid and I'm sorry for that - it was very stupid from me. I'm really sorry.

Interesting. Last year, Eaves, Helm, Abdelkader and Miller replaced 2008-2009's Samuelsson, Hossa and Hudler. How, pray tell, was that a decrease in toughness?

Look, dude---just give up. Your attack on Carman's credibility was a clear sign of your knowledge that your argument was weak. Now you've resorted to making silly, hyperbolic claims.
