Also are they showing the preseason games on it? For example, is the Red Wings vs Rangers on it tonight? I'm considering buying it because I want to keep up with Tampa Bay now that Yzerman is the GM.

I have a desktop PC connected to my 47" and can watch online streams, but the quality is atrocious.

I'd rock hockeystreams.com before Center Ice.. Yeah the quality might not be "HD" with hockeystreams but their ultra-hq stream (or whatever it is called) wasn't bad. And it was a hell of a lot less.

if you can afford it, get it.

i was able to get it for free last year due to the dispute between versus and directv. it was amazing. i was able to see most of the wings games (i did have to miss the ones on versus because of the fight) but i would say i was able to watch at least 75 games. most were in HD as well. there were a few times where i would have to watch the other feed and not get ken and mick, but that was pretty sparse. additionally, its really nice knowing that pretty much every night you can come home and turn on some hockey. as someone that loves watching any hockey, it would be nice to have it on as i was working on things. even it if was the thrashers and panthers, it was still hockey.

there are lots of ways to get it cheaper or free online, but IMO center ice is well worth it. even if you just want to watch wings games it only ends up being 2 bucks a game.

I've used NHL gamecenter and was looking to get nhl center ice. The pricing is all right however for someone like me who doesn't watch or need any other channel it is a waste of money. Here in Canada in order to get center ice you have to get the basic tv package + hd package + cost of HD receiver + cost of center ice, I priced it out here in Toronto with Starchoice, Expressvu and Cogeco most came to $70 to $100 /month, which is a lot just to watch 10 people at time chase a puck around for 60 minutes. I went with gamecenter last year, its a great a product and I was able to watch many teams including Detroit however my father wants to watch Toronto, but can't on gamecenter as it will take revenue away from the local channels and playoffs aren't broadcast on gamecenter.

I'm going to buy a couple games on hockeystreams.com this year and see how it goes, plus hockeystreams now supports streaming to your mobile device live. For the $ to watching hockey ratio, center ice is great but the amount of bullcrap you have to sign up for is a huge waste of money considering I don't need to watch the other shows being broadcast on the 200+ channels I have to sign up for just to get center ice. I've long thought TV providers would be better off letting consumers select what channels they want instead of forcing you to take crap channels just to watch one channel. I'm all up for getting center ice which is priced at $30/month here +cost of HD equipment. Sorry for the rant, but I felt a good comparison between gamecenter/hockeysteams/center ice was needed.

I live in Alberta and will be moving to Saskatchewan soon...I couldn't see many Wings games without it. I can't stand watching the s***ty streams off the webernet, so the money is totally worth it.

Me either. I'd probably buy Center Ice tonight if I could watch the Wings vs Rangers preseason game in HD.

I was looking to do gamecenter this year, which I guess is essentially Center Ice Online...are you saying that they don't show any playoff games?

Playoff games are on Versus and NBC. Neither Center Ice or gamecenter will have it.

Not 100% true. Center ice show playoff games for the first two rounds, since VS and NBC can't show every game.

To me, it is totally worth it. I think it is around $170. Divide that by around 70 games not already on VS or NBC and it's cheap. My cable provider lets me do it in 4 payments, and it is cheap entertainment all winter. I also keep up on what is going on elsewhere in the leage with it, as well as watch wednesday night hockey on TSN that I couldn't normally get in South Dakota.

I'd say the quality of the stream also depends on your internet connection. I ran gamecenter at the highest quality on wireless N no problems or lag.

I can't say for center ice but I know for sure gamecenter will not carry playoffs games in Canada because every playoff game is broadcast on cbc/tsn/tsn2 channels. Which is the same rule any game being broadcast on your local sports channel will not be available to watch on gamecenter as it takes away revenue from the local channels.

If you are a fan of hockey (not just one particular team) then its definitely the way to go. I get Center Ice every year and will find myself watching 4 or 5 games a day! If for some reason I couldn't afford it.. I'd sell a kidney!

I gotta agree, I love it. Every night you get at least 4 or 5 games. If you have a dvr it is pretty much non-stop hockey.

Agree, if you have the money and can afford it, go for it. Get to watch games every night. Do you have NHL Network? The only annoying thing is the occasional game on Center Ice gets blacked out if they are showing it on NHLnet.

I can't afford it personally, but my dad ordered it for my parents house, its always nice whenever I'm visiting, if I had the extra scratch, I'd get it. As for now, I have to settle for the atrocious streams.

Yeah, I love it. I do have NHL Network which I enjoy as well. Really the only downside is when a game is blacked out because it is on VS or NBC and you don't get Kenny and Mickey.

Guest Howard He Do It?!

Since your PC is connected to your TV I assume you are talking about NHL GameCenter LIVE. I subscribed last season and it was great. The streams are consistent and of high quality. When HD is available, the stream will be HD and the non-HD streams are of good quality too. I will be subscribing again this season. A great feature added this year is the ability to choose which broadcast you want to view, home or away. This is great if you are an out-of-market Red Wings fan.

my only complaint is that they dont broadcast in HD otherwise its worth it. A lot of the time they have both home and away broadcast.

they do show the playoff games that are not on VS or NBC.

do you have it through your cable provider? the reason i ask is because these 2 complaints i often hear from cable subsribers that have CI. i have it through direct tv, and i would estimate that 95% of the games have both feeds and probably 90% have at least 1 HD feed.

so to the OP, i would be cognizant of how you are getting CI. i personally have never known anyone to have it through cable, but like i said, the complaints of brett are ones that i read online from folks that have it through their cable provider.

I get Center Ice through my cable provider, and yes unfortunately... some of the feeds aren't offered in High-Def. It's a minor inconvenience for me though. My cable provider though, they at least give the option to break the CI package price down into 4 installments, which makes it much easier to bear than just the one big lump up front. Plus, I'll be spending a lot of weekends at my local team's games so it definitely pays to have Center Ice.. especially when you can DVR those bad boys and check out the game the next day.

I totally recommend it. If you think about the cost and divide it by 9 months for everyday hockey, its a small price to pay. They also usually show the best streams AND lately, they have been showing pre-season hockey. I missed 2 Wings games last year...only because I was away for the weekend. I even PVR'ed the game I missed when I was in labor having my son ( now THAT is dedication!)

If you love hockey, not just Wings hockey, its the only way to go (especially to see small venue teams like Tampa that are rarely shown on NBC or Versus.

is tonight's (Wings vs Rangers) on Center Ice?

We have Center Ice and to my knowledge, they've never carried preseason games on there. Just like others have said here, if you can afford it, get it. Most games are in HD (usually offered on four channels - two for each feed), and now and then you can only get the away feed, but it's not that often. Don't know about other satellite/cable companies, but Directv's improved their Center Ice offerings (i.e., the four different feeds ...as a rule...!) and I highly recommend it.

Right now pre-season games are on the NHL Network, and not on Center Ice.

This will be my 10 season of having Center Ice; dunno how any Red Wing fan outside of Michigan can live without it.

Most Wings games are in HD, and have Mickey, and Ken...Not sure how the computer feeds are (in terms of picture/sound quality, but for me it's a non-issue since I'll gladly pay extra in order to watch it on my big screen HDTVs.

This is true. Couldn't possibly cut it. :)

my only complaint is that they dont broadcast in HD otherwise its worth it. A lot of the time they have both home and away broadcast.

they do show the playoff games that are not on VS or NBC.

?? If you're talking about Center Ice, almost all the games are broadcast in HD. If you don't have the equipment for it (which can certainly add to the costs) then yeah, you're right.
