Getslaf was voted captain by the team yesterday, and today brings news that Horcoff has been named the oiler's captain.

Sorry if this had already been posted somewhere.

Obvious move for the ducks. Getzlaf is one of the best players in the league IMO.

exactly. and his rank of 19th best player in the NHL as compiled by TSN should insult him. he's top 10 in the league. getz is a ******* beast!

horcoff on the other hand is coming off his worst NHL season, and now there's pressure of him being the captain of a team that now has the likes of eberle, pajaarvi and hall coming up. he will fall off the grid very quick if he doesn't get whatever game he had back.

A top 10 forward? Arguably. I wouldn't put him lower than top 15 among NHL forwards. But top 10 overall? Not really. Once you factor in defensemen and goalies he slips down a bit.

top 15 sounds good. horcoff as a captain in the NHL is embarrasing though. he's a 2nd/3rd line player on a good team. guess that's why the oil finished dead last in the league last year.

You don't have to be the best player on the team to be a good leader and therefore good captain.

You don't have to be the best player on the team to be a captain, you just have to work hard every shift, and be a leader on and off the ice. Draper for instance was never one of the Wings better players but would make an excellent captain.

After last night, I'm thinking Eberle and Hall might join that list.

Horcoff is overpaid, but that doesn't make him a bad player or a bad leader. He's a good defensive player and a constant hard worker even if his production was overestimated. A lot of young players could learn lessons on effort and defensive hard work from him.
