Pavel Datsyuk has a Gordie Howe Hattrick

I'm predicting a Pavel vs. Kane fight tomorrow night.

I really don't see having one player diminish the Duck's frustration. It wasn't even Parros going after people.

The only fight that was a mis-match was Stuart on Brookbank, but then again Stuart might not be a "fighter" but he's a big boy and able to defend himself.

Maybe I'm just old school, but I think fighting is an integral part of the game that everyone should be able to answer the bell if the situation is called. Obviously some a lot more often then others, but I never got why one guy should be the only person fighting and that's just his sole duty.

Because teams don't generally want their star players getting hurt.

Last year Ovechkin was close to dropping the gloves, and Bradley jumped in there and took a beating for him.

And I don't like that. I think a star player should answer the bell if he's going to play the game on the edge like Ovechkin.

Which is why I hate the instigator rule.

Because staged fights are important.

I'd rather have fights that mean something, thanks.

Pavel

Not gonna turn this into an enforcer thread, but for someone who really seems to think they know what theyre talking about... Carman how many stgaed fights did Downey have here with us? He openly said he thought they were bad for the game and never did them.

The Parros fight was at the end of a shift after they had been mucking in the corners for while.

And to top it all off, you said Parros didnt go after anyone? Remember him jumping on Cleary getting ready to lay a beat down but luckily the linesman got in there?

You made your point , you don't like fighters but dont make stuff up to get a point across.

Good job by Datsyuk handling himself but hopefully with Abby,, Bert, and Ericcson (Janik if E is out long term) Datsuk won't have to do that again for a while.

When did I say this? Nice straw-man.

I love fighting in hockey, I don't like one-dimensional enforcers. I think fighting is important part of the game when the emotion and flow of the game calls for it. I don't see how a player playing 4 minutes a night can make that much of an impact. I'd rather have a grinder out there like Drake/Abdelkader that could fight, but prefer to hit and draw penalties and fight when the team needs a lift.

I was working and only got to see the last 4 mins( though I did have my mobile tsn updates:) However after seeing the shut out by Jimmy, first goal by Modano, and now that Dats fought Perry....Its seems like its going to be a great yearthumbup.gif

So with Datsyuk fighting his arch nemesis, that means Hank and Crosby are going at it later this year.

In all seriousness, he fought well, but we can't have him fighting out there. I'd rather see a Downey/Parros scrap like we saw several years ago.

That's why you pay certain players to do the fighting.

Let me guess... Had we signed Downey for just such an occasion this would have been the time when Datsyuk would have skated over to the bench to tag in Downey who would then hop the boards and fight for him right? Or maybe just the fact that Downey was on the bench would have prevented that eh? Hahaha, your funny.

Atta boy Dats for sticking up for yourself and doing a pretty good job too!

Not as important as winning the game.

What did having an enforcer do for the Ducks tonight exactly?

Further proves that their classless idiots that need to be punched in the mouth to learn a lesson? I don't like it when their attitude is "Oh, we're not going to win so lets go after their star players." It doesn't bother you that they were purposely taking shots at Zetterberg and then purposely going after Datsyuk to fight? Our two best players?

I'm not an enforcer slappy or anything, but I do believe D and Z's teammates need to butt in when stuff like this happens.

I just don't want our star player getting hurt in a fight.

Isn't that important?

If you understood hockey better, then you'd know why those staged fights occur.

Come on... its not like Datsyuk is going to fight every game. They were taking cheapshots and he didn't accept it. He kicked Perry's ass how could you possibly see this as a bad thing?

Another straw man argument.

I never said anything so stupid. You just invented that yourself.

No but a guy like Downey (I dont want Downey on this team) would have went out when the game was getting out of hand, fought Parros and things would've cooled down. However the game just built up, every other shift Getzlaf was grabbing someone, Ryan smoked Kronwall from behind and it just kept escalating.

A Downey type fights Parros and thigns cool down because the other team is like oh s*** our toughest player just got handled.

Well, Datsyuk's fight didn't exactly win the game.

I'm just saying that I'd rather see tough guys fighting tough guys, than see our star player in a fight. Doesn't have to be against someone like Boogaard for him to get hurt.

That's what happens when no hired gun is in the lineup to take care of the dirty work. Now we have Datsyuk doing it instead.

This won't happen against most teams in the league, but against someone like Anaheim, it becomes a problem.

If we had Downy or another enforcer... they would not have been out on the ice with the Datsyuk line, they would not have been out against the Perry line. An enforcer would have changed nothing in this situation. God forbid our "soft euro players" aren't soft.

Don't be a homer now.

You love fighting in hockey, then complain about Downey fighting off of face offs and staged fights and blah blah. Mean while Downey NEVER had those fights. Youre a huge fan, yet you know nothing about your teams last fighter?

I'm not saying you have to like fighting or anything but I HATE when people who don't like enforcers make up stupid arguments like saying Parros didn't go after anyone or saying Downey and his staged fights were useless when he never had them.

Argue if you want but dont bulls*** the whole board

Did you read his post?

He's saying things would have calmed down after an enforcer fight. Hence Perry wouldn't have done anything by that point.

When May and Downey were in our lineup, not much happened in terms of these scrums, whether they were on the ice or not. I doubt it's a coincidence.

No? Go back and read some of your posts in the Downey was cut by the wings thread.

I'm pretty sure I never said anything so stupid as Downey being tagged in by Datsyuk.

That's your invention to bolster your argument.

I really don't think a fight like that would have cooled anything down... I didn't see the game but a 4-0 opening game humiliation could turn things sour and no fight will relieve that sting... unless by winning a fight you are credited with goals? Maybe it could be a new rule and then having a meathead like Downey would make sense.

No i did invent that to prove a point... and thought it was pretty funny too envisioning a WWF tag-team like thing.... but you did say having Downey on the bench a player could change on the fly after a cheapshot!

No having a meat head woudl make your best player on the team most likely to not fight, or having a bottom 6 that can handle itself. Abdelkader and one other guy would be fine. Get Miller outta there.

You dont remmeber when May fought Boll last season and everything cooled down after? Guess not because it happened.

Fairy has the loudest mouth in the NHL, and the smallest stick to back it up. He might want to ask Datsyuk for his balls back, as I'm pretty sure he thought that was going to be an easy win.

I don't remember writing anything like that.

And there is no more WWF.

I don't remember that fight sorry. Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-fighting I'm just not cool with having players that can do nothing but fight. We need players that can fight but also play hockey too.

I thought it was May.

May only was on this team because we were so injured. Downey made this team out of camp as our heavyweight fighter, May never was that

I'm in teh same boat as you. One enforcer isn't what i think would work for this team. We need to add a guy in |Millers place that plays a game similar to Abby. An enforcer who cant play cant just walk in and make this team tough. I liked what I saw from Stuart against a very legit fighter, Ericcson, Abby, Bert and add one more guy and this team looks good to me
