Hjalmarsson Cheap Shot on Jason Pominville

How can he be behind him when there upper bodies are parallel and NH's leg is actually in front of JP's? Had his head not smacked the glass I wonder what the call would have been. A minor for boarding? Interference?

Even Lindy Ruff didnt think it was a dirty hit.

Wonder where all this critiquing and labeling as a clean hit after Kronwall devastated Havlat.

Do you not see in your own picture Hjalmarsson's left shoulder placed right between Pominville's own shoulders?

No hit from behind at all. Mostly from the side and some from the front as this pic shows. The puck in most of the replays is about a foot from JP's stick. The hit was timed pretty well IMO but not perfect. The reason he was taken off on a stretcher is because of his head smacking the glass. There was no elbow or any kind of cheapshot to the head.

Suspension? Shouldnt be, but since even other hits around the league in the past that have actually been clean or cleaner warrant a suspension, Im sure Hjalmarsson will get one. 1 game. Book it.

hjalmarsson's torso is clearly behind pommenville's, not sure what you are looking at, if half of his body is behind, i still consider it behind

Now look at a different angle, specifically the video and watch his movement pattern. He comes from behind. There's no arguing that, the impact may be arguable, but the fact that pominville would not have seen him coming means it's an illegal hit as of the 2010-11 season.

if his shoulder was in front of pommenville, pommenville would have gone backwards, not forwards

not exactly, blindside hits are legal, blindside hits with primary head contact are illegal

I see, misunderstood the rule. Plain and simple, I don't like hits like this, should've been a penalty and arm was up before Pominville even hit the ice.

another classic hawks fan comment on the hit:

The only joke is the notion that posters are implying they cant see Pominville's numbers - which you can clearly see. What do you think that yellow number on the left side of his back is?

RWS = red wings suck, he is obviously a troll, it is surprising he hasn't been kicked out yet

Thats the common response from a wings fan whenever he/she is actually incapable of debating the sport/game/hit etc.

I said he should have gotten a penalty for boarding. CLEARLY. But if JP head had never smacked the glass, there wouldnt be all the debate over whether the hit was dirty/legal, whatever. By the way, a clear hit from behind would not have caused someones head to go sideways. Pominville looked, saw him coming, and never braced for it.

1 game suspension max. Shouldnt be anymore then that, maybe less, as in nothing.

5 games.... a message needs to be sent. Chicago are clearly being outclassed this year by other teams, and are resorting to cheap shots to win games; similar to Anaheim Ducks' strategy. Blackhawks are cowards.

my comment had nothing to do with what you said, your initial response was far more homerish, but in generally some of the things you spew are definitely trolling

I see Dave here more than a lot of Wings fan posters. He must really love Detroit. Heh.

I'm sorry you can't be on our team... but look at the bright side, you're the fan of a team that's trying to be exactly like the Wings in every way. That's no so bad.

As much as the Hawks need to learn to be a successful team, Hawk fans need how to learn to be cool and knowledgeable fans. It's a learning curve. Keep coming here and learning from big brother Dave. We won't wedgie you... much...

I'm surprised Ryan Miller's not getting suspended for calling out the league on their bulls***. He dared to bring up the fact that Marc Savard still isn't playing, yet Matt Cooke didn't see a hint of discipline.

Agreed; from Buffalo News:

...

"It's completely something where I don't know if enough was made of it because Jason is walking out with just stitches. What if Jason has a fractured neck? We don't even know if it's going to have an impact with concussion, so I just think no matter how badly Hjalmarsson feels, no matter if it's unintentional, we have to change the culture of it if we're ever going to change the situations we're seeing, where guys are laying on the ice bleeding and missing time with concussions. It's completely an unnecessary play.

"I hope the league wakes up and sets a precedent for the year."

...

Maybe the League sees Miller as a "voice of reason" and that's why he wasn't fined. Or, he may have been given a warning. In a TV interview, he said that just after it happened Hjalmarsson couldn't believe he was being tossed.
