Neither of our goalies inspire great confidence in me, frankly. Doesn't mean I don't like them. I just mean this I would never expect either to win a game for the Wings or do anything extraordinary out there.

But they are who we have. If the rest of the team wakes up and realizes they need to play the way they must in order to win, we'll be fine. Blocks shots, don't screen the goalie, don't deflect pucks in, clear the crease, don't allow shooters to walk right in on either goalie, it's going to go in. Just...show up.

I don't think Ozzie or Jimmy can play any better than they do right now. JMO.

Your buddy Hasek was notorious for having slow starts to the season. He always used to end up fine by the end. I'll worry about this down the stretch. I think both of our goalies are more than capable individually to get the job done. Osgood's proven it throughout his career and while Howard's still got some things to learn and prove, he's got a lot of skill and potential to become a solid NHL starter for a long time.

Our goalies fall victim to defensive sabotage far too often. That is what worries me year after year since our last Cup. They're too talented to play as sloppy as they do far too often. We have a balanced team. We don't have the biggest name goalies that you can hope will carry you when everyone else lets you down. That model works fine and we've proven that again and again. But the defense has to hold up their end of the bargain which they too often haven't. The all time elites wouldn't be fairng much better in many of the games the last few years with our defense playing as poorly as they have.

Again, I think both goalies are capable of getting the job done. McCrimmon? He's given no reason for us to believe he has control of the defense at any point since he's taken over. That's what really worries me.
-Elliot...does not panic.

Can't wait til OsBad and Draper get off the books, things will be looking up!

If Osgood was making 700k i don't think many people would have a problem, because he is OK as a back up. There's still better ones out there however.

That comment doesn't even make sense. If those two are having a major effect on the Red Wings success to begin with, then this team is already in a ton of trouble. You are saying a back-up goalie and possible 4th liner being gone is going to open up a realm of great things?

The OsBad thing is just stupid. I don't think a goalie about to hit 400 career wins is "bad". Interesting perspective though.

People call Osgood "OsBad" because they think they're being witty and clever when they're really being infantile and ridiculous.

It will be interesting to see what clever names they will try to come up with when Osgood retires.

Howbad? Mccollusucks? Larssucks?

Howard was pretty damn good last night. I like the way he's looked this season so far, except for parts of the colorado game.

Using that name should be a suspendable offense. Not because it's wrong to criticize Osgood, but just because it's so obvious and stupid. Even when bashing players, LGW sets the bar higher than that.

Wings don't need a new goalie, we just have to get our defense healthy.

We need a new defensive coach to remind these players they are some of the best defensemen in the game and they need to play like it.

Letting in 2 goals w/ 28 shots is not "pretty damn good". It's ok.

Letting in 4 goals w/ 9 shots is laughable.

Let me explain further why I've come to this position.

Osgood's done a lot for this team. Even looked pretty good in the 2008-09 post-season. However, I don't believe he has shown the ability to continue to compete at the NHL since then. He has consistently given poor performances. His last shutout was last November.

Since someone decided to bring these other first string goaltenders (to compare to Osgood) into the discussion, lets look at numbers from last year.

Miller: 2.22 GAA .929 SV%
Brodeur: 2.24 GAA .916 SV%
Luongo: 2.57 GAA .913 SV%
MAF : 2.65 GAA .905 SV%

Osgood: 3.02 GAA .888 SV%

I had hoped he would come out with a few very strong beginning games. It would have greatly helped my opinion of his ability. He could have been correct in his statements of it just being a bad year. However, he hasn't come out with strong games. He's been mediocre at best. At this point I no longer have any trust in his ability in goal. I cringe at almost any shot on goal. I would much rather see someone else as our secondary. Especially when one considers that it's Jimmy's second year, and we might have to rely on our backup should Jimmy stumble.

I think I would want say a Ryan Miller instead of a rafalski to be honest, the goals, puck-moving ability and pp points etc will get compensated with stellar goaltending and lower GAA...Wings haven't really had a supreme goaltender in the modern era, so would be cool to atleast see it happen atleast once in my lifetime...

No what he was saying was stupid. hes comparing last year's Vezina trophy winner to Osgood who has been s*** all of last season and is starting this season no differently.

No one here is saying Osgood can't get wins, which is what he was cracking a joke at, we're saying he can hardly stop a puck anymore which is true.

Sometimes Doc you need to pull off your Homer glasses and realize not everyone on the wings is a great player, I know thats tough for you to do but give it a try sometime

Whoa Whoa Whoa..... What the hell does LAST SEASON have to do with this one.... last season is on the books HISTORY!!!!! so move on to this year, because RIGHT NOW is all that matters....
They are trying to fix NOW!!!! not last year!

That was my point

What kind of color is red? Red is a warning, a declaration, a color that says I'm ready to do what it takes. Red is focused and driven because red doesn't like second place. So what kind of color is red? Their kind.

You really need to patent that "Osbad" thing. That was like, perfectly timed. You know, before somebody else grabs it for all its originality, creativity, intelligence and perspective. And wisdom. And vision. And pure, unadulterated sense of Fandom. You go, dude.

"He even ate with women who at that time were accorded the same status as the family donkey. Are we willing to break bread with, say, child sex slaves, transgender teens and undocumented workers? Because when Jesus comes back to Earth, that's where he'll be hanging."
You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Wings need a new goalie like I need a new girlfriend problem.

Osgood was excellent in 2008, too, and he was very cheap. Why pay 6m for Luongo when a $1.5m goalie can do just as well?

We have some of the most spoiled, entitled, bitter fans on the planet. If we don't win 10-0 every night, everyone sucks or is too old/should be traded. It doesn't matter whose fault it actually was, if it was one player having a s*** night while everyone else was doing their best to overcome it or if it was the whole team crapping the bed.

This is every. damn. season. It's relentless. We've played four games. FOUR. F-O-U-R. 1-2-3-4. Une, deux, trois, quatre. Uno, dos, tres, quatro.

So don't open the thread.

I'm not exactly tickled to have Osgood in net either but he is the best option available and even if he just imparts his 'super kicked back, let nothing bother you too much' attitude into Howard, he'll be worth the contract imo. A few stolen games wouldn't hurt either.
