CanadaBoy 151 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 I'm not sure what difference that would really make. Helm is faster than Mo, but Mo isn't exactly slow himself. Mo has better hands, set-up ability, shot, and finish. I'd rather see them put Hudler up on the 2nd line to get him going, and bring Bert down to the 3rd to get that line going as he creates a lot of space out there. ME too....Huds & Helm had sort of a chemistry in the 08 finals....Helm & Cleary play the same style of game....they could constantly dig it out of the corners & behind the net to Hudler who is supposed to be one of our snipers Exactly, Helm would do wonders for Cleary and Hudler. And I guess Abdelkator, Eaves and Miller could energize Modano It worked for Hank, Pavs, and Hull
evilzyme 769 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Modano needs to start letting it rip....I saw several times last night where he passed the puck/turned it over instead of shooting. One time he had a wide open lane to the net. He's probably still a little uneasy playing on his first "new" team in how many years? I think hes trying to be a team player right now, ofcourse he wants points but early in the season I think because he came into a great team he just wants to be a playmaker and set others up. Once he settles down I believe they'll be fine. It's hard when Modano just came to Detroit and Hudler returned, obviously they want to do something but they obviously just need the chemistry. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) I'm not saying that we should do either, but really the only way to chance anything would be to trade Hudler or Cleary. Hudler still needs some time I think to get re-accustomed to NA hockey and they all need time to gel anyway. I'm not worried. I think Modano looked real good out there last night and Hudler has seemed to look better these past few games. Guest Stolberg Report post Posted October 22, 2010 I simply used these as examples of how much people are overreacting to the lack of production from the third line. you're using the two most negative and troll-like regular posters as a representation of everyone else? 1 dobbles reacted to this
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Cleary has been playing well but Hudler and Modano are not. I thought Modano would do well here but maybe I was wrong. It's still early but he looks lost out there. Lets give it some time and see what happens. On crack! Cleary hasn't been able to make a single good pass all season, and his shot has looked terrible. Defensively he has looked ok, but well below his normal game. Hudler and Modano haven't been stars defensively, but at least those two have looked good offensively even if the line hasn't been connecting for many goals. Maybe swap Cleary with Eaves, or maybe even try Hudler in the middle between Modano and Cleary.

But I agree for the most part with the rest of your post.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Right now I'm not happy hudler got a 2.875 Caphit, think of other players we could get for them :/
MulesWillFly93 199 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 I definitely think they need to step it up, but I also think they could use a little more time to adjust. I mean, I don't want to be sitting here saying the same thing in January - "Just give them more time!" - but they've only played 6 games so far (which makes this the 6th game ever that Mo has played with us), so I think they still have time to make it happen. If this continues to not work, though, I'd say maybe move up Eaves, but him and Helm always do so well together that I hate to break them up. Who knows, though, maybe Eaves would do even better with a guy like Modano. Well, let's cross that bridge when we get to it, I guess. 1 xtrememachine1 reacted to this

xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) the wings record is great and i am supremely happy about that. however, the 3rd line is pretty bad right now; so i, as a fan, am wondering aloud to other fans about what hypothetical changes could be made to get that line going. The best thing they can do right now is let them stay together and see if they can develop some chemistry. and yes the khl is a fairly high level. i would put it up there with any league outside the nhl as a contender for 2nd level status. i am not really sure what you mean by that team russia comment either; team russia is mostly nhl'ers. There were several KHL players on their roster that clearly could not keep up with the NHL players. also, as far as 10% not mattering, wonder where last season would have been without the last 10% of the season. its not about arbitrarily taking out 8 game segments and saying that streaks don't matter. its countering the people that think its too early to make changes. lots of people seem to think games in october don't mean anything. every game is 2 points. you can't afford to throw away any of them. and having a 3rd line that is a liability can lead to that. I understand that two points in Oct is just as valuable as two points in April, but the team is winning. They're not losing out on points because of the third line. This line needs time to build chemistry. These are three guys don't have a lot of experience playing together. Once they do build that chemistry, the team will be better off for the remaining 90%. If they are still not great by like December or January, then yeah, its time to make a change, but 6 games into the season? Give them a chance. you're using the two most negative and troll-like regular posters as a representation of everyone else? These were just two of the most outrageous suggestions I saw while skimming through the thread. I realize its not the representation of everyone else. LeftWinger 4,961 Report post Posted October 23, 2010 Even though it would probably offend modano or something like that by putting him on the 4th line with few limited minutes and let abdelkader center the third line might be a good option for now How about moving Abdelkader and Helm up to the third line and put cleary and Hudler down with Miller(Eaves)
