the league needs to do something about players that turn their backs to checks... this should not have been a penalty and players are going to get hurt worse and worse if this trend continues like it has been... even the penalty on Franzen the other night on Smithson, should have Franzen given up the hit? probably, but it was Smithson's own fault for turning his back to the hit and he's lucky he didn't get seriously hurt, let alone hurt at all...

take your licks like a man and get close to the boards (not ON the boards, but close) and turn INTO your check, even initiating contact when possible... you will be more protected and will also take less brunt of the hit due to the absorption of the initiation... this is how the game is SUPPOSE to be played...

All I have to say about Holland and our off-season:

Here in this one as well

Here in this one too

Holland is a damn good GM. period.

What happened at the end of the game is the real story.

The Briere Cross-Check/Carcillo cheap shot?

I don't understand why the NHL cannot rule on this after the fact the same way they rule after the fact on hits that do not get called but are then suspension worthy. Since this was such a terrible call, can't the league at least rule that it was a bad call and will correct it in the future?

That would be admitting fault... the NHL is NEVER wrong!

Well, I guess Briere got a three game suspension for his cross check to the face.

seeing the video replay confirms that the correct call was most likely not made, but also don't forget in the defense of the official, making the boarding call and seeing an injury result carries an automatic game misconduct penalty in addition to the major.

This is the verbage from the USA Hockey rule book regarding that (I know its not the NHL book, but carries the same idea):

Rule 604 (B)

When a player injures an opponent as the result of
“boarding,” the Referee shall have no alternative but to
impose a major plus a game misconduct penalty on the
offending player.

Jesus Hunter, that man has a family...

God forbid that would have been Crosby.

Rick DiPietro, meanwhile, really doesn't want to play out a full season
