I agreeAbsolutely. Uncle Nick still has it. He probably always will.
However, I think his desire to raise his kids in Sweden will make this his last hurrah, Cup or no Cup. (Hopefully with a Cup)

His game doesn't require great athleticism, it's pretty much 98% brains and hockey IQ. Keep him in skates until he slips enough that he's not gonna make our roster.

So, let's say he wins the Norris this year, anyone have a problem offering him another one-year, $7 million contract?
I wouldn't have a personal problem with it, but I don't think it would help the salary cap situation one bit. If they win the cup, I think he would retire. If they don't and he plays at a high level, I wouldn't be surprised if he came back making slightly more than Rafalski like he did this year. Either way, I think next year would be his last before the possible uncertainty of the labor situation.

I want Nick to come back and sign for the veteran's minimum, which won't count against the cap because the NHL will adopt that rule from the NBA. Then the Wings will have the best value in the league...

I hope he comes back, but I hope he takes a big discount next year so we can go out and get another quality defenseman in the offseason.

If he's still the best defenseman on the team then I really don't see how he should not have a cap hit higher than Rafi's.

So if he keeps up a PPG pace like he is, you wouldn't want to see him back for $6 mil?I hope he returns as well, but not at anything over 4 million.
He's probably not going to be a PPG player, but he's easily the best defenseman we have (it's not even close), so why on Earth wouldn't we want him back at nearly any price up to $7 mil?
