considering the NHL way of handling suspensions - way too many. 1 game is the most with usual NHL policy.

considering Briere's record and the fact that he's one of top league players plus has some history of dishing unnecessary hit - I'm glad someone had balls to hand this much punishment. if only the league kept handling the matter like that...

I think those suspensions will come in bunches until All Star break. NHL decided to teach players to play with less edge and it usually takes those 3-4 months to have the message received. but come playoff run and playoffs itself - expect a lot of old sh*t to come back and escape unseen. perhaps less than last season, but it's still going to be good ol' hockey.

overall, I agree with the league on the policy. it really got too bad last season and it's time to do something about
this business. there is a difference between hard hits and head hunting and I'm glad this is handled, even if the handling
is not perfect...

One suspension with Buffalo, two with Philadelphia. I thought I heard on TSN that this was his fifth disciplinary hearing.

And yet, Matt Cooke has STILL gotten nothing for nearly murdering Savard.

But the blindside rule wasn't in affect when that hit occured right?

Let me preface what I'm about to say by openly admitting that I know that this makes me a bad person and one should never take pleasure in injuries, but...

I will openly cheer, without shame, if anyone ever takes a run/cheap-shot at Cooke which results in the end of his career.

Cooke is EXACTLY the type of player the game needs to get rid of - no respect for his fellow player or the game, and a abortion of a human being to boot.

All I have to say about Holland and our off-season:

Here in this thread

Here in this one as well

Here in this one too

and finally

Here

Holland is a damn good GM. period.

I don't want his career ended, everyone deserves to be in a profession they enjoy unless you're one of those truly bad people out there doing really bad things. I just want to see someone catch him with his head down and hit him in the mouth with an elbow removing his teeth and giving him a Lilja concussion :)

I won't wish upon him a career ending injury, but I certainly wouldn't shed a tear if he's hit in the exact same manner that he laid upon Savard.

I don't see Briere as a dirty player. He's certainly not the punk type like a Cooke or a Perry. Has he done stuff in the past that he shouldn't have? Yes. Does he have a reputation for being a dirty goon? If he does, he shouldn't.

Fine, can we compromise - A career crippling injury, resulting in a minimum of 50 games missed?

I don't think Savard will ever be the player he was again...

He won't. I'd be in favor of introducing a rule that when a player injures another, he doesn't play until the injured player returns. Of course, that would mean a certain member of the Red Wings would be unable to play at this moment, but whatever.

Franz shouldn't have acted all tough to Briere. I'm fine with Carcillo regulating in that case.

Nielsen most likely just responded to something Briere said.

I'd be in favor of introducing a rule that when a player injures another, he doesn't play until the injured player returns.

Problem is, in most cases, players don't injure each other on purpose. You'd have to prove a deliberate intent to injure.

How was he acting tough? If I was Franz and Dan was talking s*** to me i'd be like, 'oh, ok, you midget *****, keep talking that s***'. How is that acting tough?

The suspension is fine. He swung at Neilsons face with his stick. That is bulls*** and suspendible in any era of the game, don't try to justify that.

this completely.

dirty ass s***. don't make this about something that it's not.

Briere needs someone to coach him on the fine art of reacting to a League suspension announcement; he claims he is "shocked".

I would be too, considering what has been let go in the past.

Considering someone got suspended for a gesture, I find it amazing he's "shocked" he's being suspended for this incident.

oh come on... if you're given free ride like 3 times and only then the league gives you suspension... and you still whine about it and point your finger to someone else... you must be with Philadelphia Flyers, right...

this whole team is simply built around marginal plays and shameless whining...
