Hudler has been really great recently. He has been much more noticeable in a lot of games, making plays. He has great control of the puck and can make sick saucer passes anywhere. That backhand feed to Cleary tonight was a thing of beauty.

So was the forechecking beauty he knocked off a defenseman's stick right to Dats in front of the net. If Dats elevated the puck even a bit, that's a phantom assist to Hudler (in that it likely wouldn't be counted on the stat sheet, but he caused the giveaway to Pavel).

Two out of the three games since his return, Pavel and Hudler have been a very effective combination.

The major question is, what happens when Filppula and Holmstrom back on the ice? Babcock's natural instinct would be to just send Jiri back to the third or fourth line where he's played his career under Babs. But the way Huds has been scoring and the way he's clicked with Dats, can you do that?

Right now the top two lines are Franzen/Zetterberg/Bertuzzi and Cleary/Datsyuk/Hudler. Do you slap a line together of Holmstrom/Filppula/Eaves?

It looks kind of weird but it doesn't seem like too bad of a line at all. Eaves is a decent scorer with good shot, he and Flip both have wheels, Homer does his thing and goes to the net. Pretty standard setup, actually.

Everything becomes even more complicated when Modano returns, but at that point it'll be impossible to avoid stacking centers on the same line.

Since his break-out game against the Avs on Dec 27th:

21gp 5g 13a 18pts 0.86pts/g

Looks like he's really turned the corner and is playing like we know he should but he'll have to continue doing so until the season's over.

Let's be honest though. I mean Holmstrom's #'s increased being on a dominant line with Pav and Zetterberg. If Huds couldn't get things going with Pav then we would have no choice but to part with him. Glad to see that line clicking on all cylinders thumbup.gif
