Devellano wanted Bourque w/ Lidstrom on the Blue Line...

The most mind-blowing part of the article is this:

"There was a lot of talk that Mike Keenan was headed our way and I went to ownership and really discouraged it," Devellano said. "I was asked by my owner, 'Well, what do you want me to do? I need a coach that can help us win in the playoffs.'

Jimmy D is my new favorite person in the whole world.

wow... a blue line with Lidstrom AND Bourque... can't even imagine it...

also, the thought of Keenan over Bowman makes me sick to my stomach... MAJOR history changer right there

Jimmy D was already pretty high, but he just went up another notch in my book...

Great article, alot of stuff I never heard about in it. Like his choice of picking Bowman or Al Arbour over Keenan.

Can't imagine.

I can. I can easily imagine a Cup for every year of Borque's contract.

But, to be honest, it kinda sickened me to see him win a Cup with the Avs after all those years in Boston. He was a great player but I kinda hold the Cup chasing against him a little for some reason. I feel like he shoulda stayed loyal to Boston... or came here. :P

Yep, read it some years ago in "Losing the edge" which is the story of how Keenan built the Rangers into a Cup champion then imploded the team with his shenanigans.

Why did Primeau wanted out of detroit so badly? anyone knows?

God I miss pre-salary cap nhl where big trades could happen and you didn't have to bother about money, it was just getting guys all the time no questions asked...

Lidstrom-Bourque would have been 100pts each and a +80 +/-

Coincidentally, Jimmy D summed it up in a quote back in the day when Primeau was traded. He said something to the effect of: "He wanted to be a big fish in a little pond"

At the time, he was being traded to Hartford.

I'm guessing the infamous Habs-Wings game where Roy utterly imploded, giving up 9 goals in the process, and was the final straw in him being traded to Colorado a few days later.

Anyone know what Jimmy meant with Roy? Was he almost a Red Wing.

No more like colorado got BOTH roy and bourque and scrweed detroit over for the 2001 cup etc..

But we were apparently also in the running for Roy after he wanted out. I can't remember the price, but it was ridiculously small. As was the price Colorado paid :ranting:

I remember reading we were in the running for trading for Gretzky too, at the cost of Stevie Y and some others though. If I recall correctly, Gretsky's wife really wanted him to play here.
