This isn't about team announcers, but it is kinda related. I was driving home last night (live in Toronto) and was listening to the Fan 590 and they were playing a quick interview with Bryan McCabe (Florida feed, questions from Florida media). Anyway, one person wanted to ask him his thoughts on the new all star game selection process. She says "what do you think about what the GMs decided yesterday, only 6 players will be picked by the fans, the rest by hockey operations."

Come on!!! Seriously??? This persons JOB is to know the sport and what goes on and she completely has no clue on the change they have proposed with the allstar game. The fans only pick the starting line up today, the rest by hockey operations, that is not changing and that's the not the story everyone is talking about.

Is it me or does Doc Emrick have that Brick Tamland look to him? I don't mean that he literally looks like the character from "Anchorman", but when they show him speaking before a game he just has this happy-but-vacant look on his face and that same measured quality to his voice as Brick. That and the fact he says the same damn expressions over and over (see "waffleboarded"). I can just hear Doc saying, "People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks."

Though he does have a doctorate degree (hence the nickname "Doc"), so his I.Q. is obviously higher than 48.

Haha yes, yes and yes! I never made that connection between the two, but while reading your post i couldnt stop laughing on how incredibly true that is lol. Best post in this thread in my opinion!

My favourite broadcast team used to be Sam Rosen and John Davidson. They were awesome. Sam still does the Rangers games but he is not as good anymore without JD.

There are many annoying tandems out there right now. I know what to expect from Mickey Redmond. So even thogh he states the obvious and refers to his playing days too much, I can bear it. Daniels gets on my nerves sometimes especially when he says WHATWITH every 30 seconds.

Bob Errey and Eddie O are mute worthy and so is Pierre McGuire who is the Joe Morgan of the NHL. I think he honestly believes he is the only person on the planet who knows anything about hockey. Greg Millen should be barred fron any mike. He says the word ZONE every 10 seconds and really has no idea what his own point is.

Overall the NHL sucks when it comes to announcers and colour guys. I still like Bob Cole even though he gets the players names wrong and often doesn't even know which team are playing or even where he is. Craig Simpson has that whiny assed tone that makes me want to throw my tv out the window. Why does he need to whine about everything? Jim Hughson sounds like he needs some tripolin or reactin or claritin or something.

Joe Bowen doesn't have much to cheer about with the Leafs so his Leaf ejaculations are not as prevalent anymore. Rick Jenneret in Buffalo still climaxes quite a bit even though the Sabres suck. I can only stand so much of Darryl Reaugh but even he gets annoying when he repeats the same jokes over and over again. That bald bastard in San Jose needs to be Old Yellered out his misery. The Blues guy looks like he is possessed by Satan. Seriously what the hell is with his eyes?

Doc Emerick usually talks about everything but the actual game being played. I don't mind him though.

Actually, the fans now pick two starting lineups, 12 players. Under the new format they will pick top six only, and Hockey Ops will pick 36 more. So there was a change. But you are right, that is not the right question to ask.

Back on topic, I second those who like Webber/Crisp in Nashville and Thorne/Clement. Thorne has a fantastic voice and knew how to raise it when it mattered the most. I also liked Sam Rosen when he used to do the national radio feed during the finals. His call when Stevie Y handed the Cup to Vladdie in 1998 (Just a simple but very emotional, "Oh, my.") was really memorable.

True, I guess you can't say that it was a completely invalid question, since there was a "small" change there, but you can certainly say it was a stupid question and a demonstration of the lack of any real interest and investment into the sport.

I kinda like him though, he has his own cadence to the way he talks/calls the game that's all his own and kinda funny sounding. Much like Jim Fox in LA, he cracks me up with the way he talks. Color indeed!

Just about every play by play and color commentary Versus/NBC have. I don't even care about what they have to say. The fact that they have their stupid discussions while the puck is in play makes me avoid as many games by Versus/NBC as I can.

You mean story time? But really, is it that bad? I could see someone not liking it if they are not a Wings fans but i always found the little "inside scoop" "behind the scenes" (what ever you want to call it) about the Wings organization interesting.

I don't see why people don't like Mick. He's an old-school guy that gives his unique perspectives on the game. It wouldn't be FSD without Ken and Mick in the booth
