Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

I have been friends with a guy that lives in Toronto for a few years, I game with him a lot on Xbox live. He's in his mid 30's, been a Leafs fan for as long as he can remember as he was raised into it. He's die hard, he watches 50+ games per season, and I don't understand how he has done this for his entire life.

I really feel for him sometimes, when being able to dump Clarkson at the deadline was a victory for the team and made him excessively happy, it makes me stop and appreciate how good we really have it here as Wings fans.

The mounting frustrations, being a fan for 30 years and never seeing a cup raised, bad contract after bad contract, the fans that have been there for dozens of years and still call themselves Maple Leafs fans, yeah I feel like they really do deserve better.

I don't think it will account to much maybe a bit of money TSN on the other side will be interesting especially because they are owned by Bell.

I wonder if the whole thing is too try and force the Leafs to trade them.

Great point and I wouldn't blame them one bit. Dion has to answer the same questions over and over again, Kessel is one of the best scorers in the game and yet gets blamed for a lot off stuff..

Lupul should stick to the no comment thing till he is traded that would piss off the media even more

It's not libel if it was clearly intended to be a joke and not to be taken seriously, one of the most common defenses to it. The Onion is a perfect example.

And comparing a rape threat to a kid who was just making an innocent joke? Seriously?

Edit: http://www.theonion.com/articles/jay-cutler-ill-be-the-first-person-to-admit-we-nee,37422/

This article is a perfect example. Clearly a joke that some people took literally but not libel

It wasn't clearly a joke because people on the Internet asked whether t was true. That's how crazy destructive rumors spread on the Internet. The Onion is a recognized satirical website. Different than an individual commenting on something.

Don't feel sorry for them one bit. 90% of leaf fans are assholes. I live 20 minutes from Toronto so I know. Oh yea and they are still guaranteeing Babcock will be the coach next year because Rogers will quadruple what illitch offers. Also they made fun of detroit getting older at the trade deadline.

f*** leaf fans

Yeah, some of them still don't know much about or owner it seems. just remind them that our payroll was higher than theirs in the pre cap era.

Babs well get offers from top clubs and the chance to coach the best player in the game plus a lot of money. If the Leafs want to go to 20 million a year I'm sure he'd sign there but I doubt it. And if the best owner in all of sports makes this personal the Leafs would be in for a long bidding war

Yep I use that pre cap era argument all the time when it's brought up, and then I point to the Toronto Blue Jays who are also owned by Rogers (who profited over 5 billion last year) have a payroll of 130 million and refuse to go over that. Illitch and the Tigers payroll is higher.

The problem with Leaf fans is they will let you know how rich they are, and how popular they are but once the argument turns into facts they lose their argument and turn into complete assholes and start attacking the city of Detroit and the attendance and how old the Wings teams always are. Pretty sure the oldest team to ever win the cup was the 1967 Maple Laughs.

People asking on the internet if it was true doesn't automatically make something a fact. What starts rumors, is serious new organizations treating a stupid comment as some form of revelation, they should know better.

To be fair, The Onion is recognized as a satirical website by those that know what The Onion is. Those that don't know what The Onion is can easily confuse what they say as fact, Especially if they report something that is close to reality.

Yeah, I mean i'm only speaking for one guy that I know, I bet if I lived there I might feel differently. I did live about 10 miles outside of Philadelphia for 12 years, and I have a very firm opinion of those... fans. If you told me you had one friend that was a good guy and a Flyers fan i'd put you in your place about your opinion of the fans in general also.

haha.

Philly fans are crazy.

For any sport.

I'm still really close to five dudes I player AAA with who are Toronto fans.

And they are cocky assholes.

But other than hockey, they're some of the calmest, coolest guys I've ever known.

They always have my back.

They always pay their own tab.

So I don't have much to complain about, I guess I'd say they're loyal, if nothing else.

Which is a good thing.

I guess you'd have to be, since they're fans of a synonym for sucking.

Yup that's Rogers in a nutshell, their first priority isn't to ice/produce a great team or product it's only making their shareholders happy. Illitch on the other hand is also a fan and will do everything to ice a winner. I'm willing to bet our payroll would still be higher than the Leafs one in a noncap-world.

It's so funny how many of them want to get rid off Phaneuf, Kessel, JVR, Nonis...I'm wondering who will score the goals then and who leads the defense ? A 22 old Morgan Rielly ? lol and I'm not sure Shanahan has as much connection to other GMs as Nonis does the guy has been around for a long time now.

That's why I think it's so stupid how Leaf games are sold out for around 5 years in advance, and even getting tickets for the nosebleeds can run you $200 on Stubhub. Why do Leaf fans continue to pay to go watch their team do so poorly, buy merch, etc.?

Theres so much Leafs merch out there, especially here in Ontario, it makes me sick. It's EVERYWHERE. lol

A lot of them are corporate seats but sure that fan base is massive like really massive but the guys from LL talked about it, they're seeing me and more empty seats. It's unbelievable how fun I've had watching them with Orr and McLaren in the lineup they did fight, checked everything that moved and if the other team responded games were even more entertaining. Carlyle has to sit in his mansion and laugh about them now. As well Nonis if they fire him

If I'm Nonis I'd call up Orr, McLaren, Devane and Biggs tell them to do whatever it takes to give the fans some enjoyment for their money and if other teams won't accept the fight start it anyways, there are too many rats running around and fans want entertainment.

Ooops! Off the rails again! Bring it back to Toronto and Toronto only, please.

All topics tend to go off the rails at some point. Conversations between people naturally evolve and move in other directions. I getcha though I guess....
