Mckinley25 677 Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Former NHL player more like. Because the Laffs had the only GM who doesn't understand the modern NHL. Without Orr hockey is hockey. The hand over the puck rule has always been there Yeah, I was poking fun at the "hockey turning to soccer" argument. I'm one of the anti-enforcers Frank is talking about. Laffs how creative...I'm sure it's just coincidence that they've had their by far best season when guys like Orr, Frazer McLaren and Mark Frazer played for them in the lockout shortened season. Anyway thankfully most people showed claass and Orr received the respect a man like him deserves.

There's your money quote Tried to listen to it on TSN but for whatever reason my audio didn't work (otherwise it works just fine so my SB is working). So Shanahan thinks they need players with character yet two of their biggest character guys are down in the AHL and after firing over 25 people on sunday he should be the last guy talking about character. Chelios was right Shanahan is like a politican trying to manipulate the masses (fans). From what I've read the GM job there will be GM in title only: Boss = Shanahan, then his BFFs Dubas and Hunter and THEN the GM - save for a ridiculous annually overpayment I can't see any sane GM opting for that job. My guess is that he wants players who can fight AND play hockey, I dont think it's one or the other. There is no doubt that Orr and McLaren are two of the toughest guys in the league, I will give them credit for being willing to stick up for teammates night in/night out. But they just don't have the skill-sets required to play in the NHL in 2015. If toughness/grit/fighters are what he wants, he probably wants guys like himself, McCarty, etc. Guys that will drop the gloves, then score a goal. Not a guy that had 53 GP, 0 points and is -3 (Orr's stats last season). If you want a fighter, get a guy like Laraque, a guy who can go with anyone, and score 15-30 points with some clutch goals. I was referencing to Jamie Devane and Tyler Biggs country strong and they can play. Orr and McLaren are without doubt great mentors for them. I get the whole character thing but seriously he just fired 25 people (with families kids wives) in one day I'm not do sure anymore if character is something he still has (maybe he worked too long for the NHL dops ) Watched the presser I'll give him credit for not coming in with guns blazing but Shanahan is the VP him saying he wants a GM working under himself, Hunter and Dubas means the guy can scratch Shero, Chiarelli, Futa of his list. .look at Burke and Linden they provide advice but aren't meddling with the day to day GM business. I have a feeling he will promote one of his two BFF to the GM role. If Shanahan doesn't believe that Toronto is a tough market then I really don't know what constitutes a tough market in his mind. Yeah the fans are massive and loyal but most of them are outpriced of the ACC. Also Shanny talking about a fantastic coach sadly describes a very clear picture of whom they'll want. frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted April 15, 2015 My bad, I assumed you were talking about Orr & McLaren. No problem. McLaren is kind off a sad story, guy played and fought with a broken finger..gets healthy and then they demote him to the AHL feel bad for him. Jamie Devane is such a great and interesting prospect (not as tough as our McKee) but the guy has some skill and I could see him turning into a more skilled version of Shawn Thornton which is really scary. If the Wings are out in the first round do the Leafs have to wait till July 1 or can they talk to Babcock right after that ?

He doesn't hate Babcock personally.

jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted May 15, 2015 I wanna say maple leafs fans reserve better, But so many of them are stark raving mad. They hype up their own prospects like they're the second coming of Gretzkythen as soon as they get to the NHL they sh** all over them. I know with the size of the fan base, they're bound to have more than normal amounts of jackassery, but its still ridiculously annoying, and I take pleasure in the franchises ineptitude just because of them. Their fan base is to big for the Leafs own good. I remember threads about Gardiner and the Norris, Reimer Vezina and now all of a sudden they want to get rid of these guys. Then add to that all the people who are more annoying as the media there..thinking that players shouldn't have a private life and that a rebuild can be done in 1 year ..I feel bad for their sane knowledgeable fans they really deserve better but man TSN just confirmed that the Toronto job is GM in title only ..Shanahan is going to be the final voice a guy with no experience wow.
