Right right right, thats why I said when they win a cup, Cleary is already past that. Maybe you took that wrong or I wrote it wrong. Either way I didnt intend it like that!

I think you mean to say Cleary still has jump, hunger and grit, even though he has a cup already. I see that too. He plays like a dog that has lost his bone to another dog and he wants it back big time.

** edited. Yeah, evilzyme, I think we all misinterpreted what you said. :hehe: **

I think Cleary is going to be one of those players who comes up big in the playoffs.

Hes like Franzen, very very very streaky, I don't want to bear the bad news, but he will cool down, and I am sure he will be on the whipping post 2 games after his production slows.

you mean he isn't going to score 88 more goals this year? :scared:

off topic...but how do they take pictures like this so close to the ice?

I'm viewing this from my phone so maybe I'm a Tad off but they have holes cut in the glass along the bottom for cameras. I assume it was taken from that using a fisheye lens

In my opinion, CLeary personifies the best in the Canadian player: His heart and soul he gives to hockey, his bond with his teammates, his work ethic, his determination and tenacity on the ice, he's a contributor and a producer, and he lets his actions say it all, he does not say or do stupid things on or off the ice. He's a man's man and a player's player.

Fixed. Not sure what the fact that he is Canadian had to do with it.

At The Joe there's actually a Lexan "window" installed along the yellow dasher off to the goalie's right where they can mount a remote camera just like a "goal cam". It's located right where the trapezoid line meets the dasher on the end where the Wings shoot twice. I believe it was put in place for the 2008 SCF. And yes, that camera is using a "fish".

He's an amazing player to watch. Strong work ethic and grit. Read some articles that stated he couldn't even walk up stairs during the off season proves how banged up he was last year. I'm glad to see a productive, and healthy Cleary at his best. Do they still play "I can see clearly now" after he scores? Very happy for him.

Uh oh... do I see some Canadian, "It's our game!", chest thumping pride on the horizon? Oh goodie... this'll be good. :)

I am proud... Why not be proud of our Canadian boys? The Yankee boys play very similar and look at what a less skilled but grittier and tougher Abdelkader has done compared to a highly skilled but wussy Hudler? I'd be proud of that if I were a Yank.

...hell I'm not a American and I am proud of it. I'd even trade Hudler for another Abdelkader (even if he is Amercian ;))

I'm just jerkin your chain. I've always liked what hard-nosed Canadian boys bring to a hockey team. :)

Being Canadian has everything to do with it... its in the blood, its in the culture

I'm not Canadian. I can't say I know what being Canadian is like. I can, however, voice that I have never seen such pure, blind, arrogant, discriminatory, and unrelenting passion and dedication to a sport as the vast majority of Canadians have toward hockey.

American's love for football pales in comparison. Europe's love of Soccer is closer but I can't fathom that the percentage of futbol loving Europians is as high as hockey mad Canadians. The Canadian media (TSN, CBC) acts as if the NHL still has only six teams (the Canadian ones) and that only Canadian players and the Sedin twins fill out thier rosters. I'm not suprised that Vancouver is the favorite to win the Cup, even though the Wings look as dominant. Montreal goes ballistic after winning two rounds. Toronto goes ballistic after winning two games.

My point is, because if you you've watched hockey for more than five minutes you should know the above, being born and raised in that culture seems to instill a different type of passion in Canadian players. Call it National pride, almost like military service for the country. This isn't some Cherry-esque rant, it's just an observation from someone who's been engrossed in the game and it's culture for most of his life. The older I get the more I see it. I think the Europians are starting to play a more physical, passionate brand of hockey (see the Wings). American college hockey is pumping out more players than ever, the game is spreading across our country, and we produce great players. But hockey is Canada's,game and they do it a great service and honor in thier culture and it shows in a high percentage of thier homegrown stars.

That said, the line between pride and arrogance gets blurred sometimes in the process. See Don Cherry.

This doesn't surprise me coming from the "fans" on this forum in general. There are some real fans on here that will truly stand behind their team through thick and thin. Then there are the fans on this forum that will hang the team out to dry, insult members of the team, and insult the management. This after years of playoff success, 4 stanley cups since 1997, and a monster winning percentage in the last 17 years. Go figure....

Dan Cleary has been excellent. His streak won't go all season, but other players will step up when Cleary has problems. That is what happens in hockey. :)

isn't that exactly what he was saying? I guess you aren't a "real fan" either..

I was kidding back with ya... sort of. I'm a proud Canadian for sure and proud of our hockey players mos def. But American hockey players have come along too and they play a very similar style... That Gold medal olympic game was the best example. I do appreciate the European game as well, how can you not watching Lidstrom, Datsyuk and Zetterberg do their thing. But we have saturated with European players who want to make the pretty play and shy away from the tough, ugly parts of the game... My favourite Wings teams had a better balance of the 2 and I like the direction we look to be going in because it looks to be just that. I'll take Cleary or Abdelkader on this team everyday over Hudler... Hudler showed me his true colours when he defected to KHL and then came crawling back... f*** him, he's been replaced by bigger, better suited and hungrier players.

They play the "Newfoundlander" song.

There has been nothing anywhere on Cleary's status. They didn't even mention it on the news or Sports Wrap Up or whatever it's called.

That can be good, or horrible... generally the only time they don't talk about them at all is if they're nothing and the player just had a stinger taken out for precautions... or it's a real bad injury...

This is making me nervous...

That's what I'm thinking. Usually if it's just a little something-or-other, it's at least mentioned. There hasn't been a single peep anywhere. I hope I'm wrong.
