Sad yes, but given the history of inequality concerning human rights all over our planet it's not surprising. I'm thankful everyday that I live in a country that never condoned or allowed slavery, and I'm glad that the USA is doing everything it can to make up for mistakes of the past. That being said, I'm sure Panger didn't mean to imply anything with his slip up, and I don't think anything will come of this, he may be annoying at times but I doubt he's racist given that he's good buddies with Stevie Y, and The Captain would never be friends with anyone who was like that I'm sure.
Don't be too proud. The only reason that Canada as you know it never participated in slavery is quite simply because it isn't old enough, even if you go as far back as 1867.

"If I can be totally honest, it's not a lot of guys you get impressed by. Actually, it's no one else but him. From the bench, to see what move he makes -- you're like, 'I wish I could do that.' Sometimes you sit on the bench and just think, 'wow,' and you look over to the other bench and they sit there and shake their heads, too. He has great, great skills. I'm probably not going to play with another player who has the kind of skills he has." Mikael Samuelsson on Pavel Datsyuk
