The lines apparently are going to be mixed up, Datsyuk and Zetter aren't playing on the same line for tomorrow it seems.

Coach Mike Babcock on Wings' slide: 'We've got to fix it' The Red Wings focused today in practice on getting through the neutral zone, which has been a problem for them this past stretch.

For the first time this season the Wings have gone three straight games without winning, most recently getting beat at home, 3-2, by Nashville Wednesday evening.

“Last night was a gift, in my opinion,” coach Mike Babcock said. “We weren’t prepared to play at the start and it cost us big-time. Catch-up hockey is losing hockey, I say that all the time. We’ve got to fix it, simple.”

It won’t get any easier Friday, as the red-hot Montreal Canadiens come to town having won three straight games. Their 1.90 goals-against average ranks second in the NHL, and their 89.3% penalty kill is first.

The Wings haven’t won since last Friday at Anaheim, losing in overtime in Los Angeles the next night (the second of a back-to-back), and at home Monday to San Jose (first game back from a long road trip). Turnovers have been a problem, as has a consistent, 60-minute effort.

“We’ve got to try and get back to playing a complete game, doing what we do in the first and the second and third,” Todd Bertuzzi said.

“It’s just little errors. We’ve just got to be a little smarter, do the right things. Whenever we’re successful we’ve got 40-plus shots and we’re controlling the puck down low, so we’ve got to get back to that.”

Babcock used the same lines during practice today that finished up Wednesday’s game, but didn’t commit to also using them against Montreal. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg were split up “because they were no good,” Babcock said. “We got better after, now, is that because they got engaged or is it because they were split up – I don’t know the answer to that.”

Babcock didn’t know if he’d keep the same lines for Friday’s games. This is what they looked like:

Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Hudler-Zetterberg-Cleary

Eaves-Filppula-Bertuzzi

Miller-Helm-Abdelkader

Jimmy Howard is starting in goal Friday, and Chris Osgood is in for Saturday’s game at New Jersey.

Defenseman Brad Stuart sat out practice because of a sore groin, but said he’ll play Friday.

I LOVE O6 matchups. We don't play Montreal nearly enough. I'm very anxious to see the Habs and partially assess whether they can build on last years' success or if it was just a fluke. Anyone who knocks Pittsburgh out of the playoffs gets major brownie points from me. It wouldn't break my heart to see a Detroit/Montreal final. TONS of history in that matchup.

I'm not thrilled with the Euro-Twins being split either, but I'm learning not to question Mr. Babcock. He's done this before and once the team plays piss-poor for a bit, he gets them rolling together again.

Thanks for the GDT, Hockeytown.

Prices' stats are SICK.

Like most of you, I'm not sure about Babs splitting up the Euro-twins....but hopefully it'll work in our favor.

I hope last weeks Wings team shows up instead of this weeks team.

LGW!!

Wings almost never lose 4 on the bounce. Especially 3 straight at home. Especially with a healthy line-up.

But dayum if I'm not getting cheesed off with this preferential treatment for Hudler. Tell me why he deserves to be on the 2nd line and Flip + Bert on the 3rd?

Be interesting to see how Hank does trying to carry Jiri Marleys chain dry.gif

Nice. Are you going to come back tomorrow if they win and admit you were wrong?

I didn't think so.

I wouldn't normally post this but tonight I just don't have a good feeling. Much like the last 3 games.

If they win, I will GLADLY come on here and eat my crow. I hope I have to.
