In other news, try to find the GIGANTIC error this idiot sports writer made in this article. There's also a smaller one in the same paragraph.

BOSTON (AP)—The Bruins sent German forward Marco Sturm(notes) to the Los Angeles Kings in an NHL trade Saturday that brings Boston salary cap space—but nothing else—in return.

The trade, contingent on Sturm passing a physical, was announced about 30 minutes before the Bruins faced the Philadelphia Flyers. The news release said Boston would receive “future considerations,” but general manager Peter Chiarelli met with reporters and said: “Really, it’s nothing.”

“Keep in mind the value of cap space,” Chiarelli said. “That’s what you have to keep in perspective. I’m not trying to justify trading for nothing. Of course we like to get return for our player.”

Sturm, the NHL’s leading scorer with 234 goals and 232 assists, has spent the last six of his 14 seasons with the Bruins after coming to Boston in the trade that sent eventual Hart Trophy winner Joe Thornton(notes) to the San Jose Sharks. Sturm scored 29 goals with 30 assists in Boston and L.A. that year, his best NHL season so far.

But Sturm has been on the injured list all season recovering from surgery to repair ligaments in his right knee that he tore during last season’s playoffs.

Chiarelli said Sturm would be ready to play in a week or so. The Bruins are over the NHL’s salary cap and would have had to cut elsewhere to activate Sturm. By trading him now, they are able to keep intact a team that entered the night trailing Montreal by three points in the Northeast Division, with two fewer games played than the Canadiens.

The Kings are approximately $6 million under the salary cap—more than enough to absorb the rest of Sturm’s $3.5 million salary this season. Chiarelli said he could have held onto Sturm longer, but the team saves more cap money this way and that made the deal more attractive.

AP Sports Writer Greg Beacham contributed to this story from Los Angeles.

Wow where was Kenny on this one? We could have added a 234 goal scorer! 232 assists too so he would lead the team in assists. Ah well back to the drawing board Kenny.

Maybe the writer meant to say that Sturm is the leading German scorer in the NHL? Any other Germans have more points than him?

After tearing both the ACL and MCL in the playoffs last year, he is going to be a shadow of his former self for a while. Kings are stuck with the $3.5 million caphit because they can, and they get maybe a 3rd line depth forward who can chip in some goals. He was completely useless to Boston with that caphit.

I'm not sure how effective Sturm will be. His speed is what got him to the NHL and with both knees having had surgery on them, I don't know how effective he will be. I guess he was the last link in the Joe Thornton trade for Boston. At least they still have the Leafs to trade with.

Isn't Heatley TECHNICALLY the leading German-BORN scorer with 312 Goals and 342 Assists?

Technically yes, but he chose Canada over Germany..

Hmmm....trading a guy for nothing.

Hudler. :!:

If the Red Wings got "future considerations" for a dude who will suck balls and only has 4 crap years left in the tank...they could turn that 5th round pick into a gem. As far as Hudler...being a member of LGW...rule # 1 is you have to be pro-Hudler and rule #2 - anti-inforcer...lol.
