im not really against anyone for getting a name wrong, there are some weird ones out there.... but his voice is just so......... drab. everyone says the joe doesnt rock.... and part of that means you need to get a rink announcer that has some pizazz... some flair. get everyone excited.

Sheesh all Budd does is announce the last minute of each period and announces the stars of the game.

Gotta say I have gone to a million games at the Joe and having Budd as the announcer is just like any other part of the experience. Doesn't bring it down at all. But I guess that is just me.

I'm sure it was just a slip of the tongue. I'm sure Budd knows how to pronounce Lidstrom's name.

Ya, and of course he has said it a zillion times without the N, but he always mispronounces names, he always called Kozlov and Fetisov with the Long A, and he ALWAYS butchered Tkachuk's name. But to his credit, he does pronounce a lot of names right. (and he is a fossil, so what else can you expect?)

You haters do realize that Budd is literally 93 years old, has been with the team for over 60 years, and lost an arm at Normandy fighting Nazis? That guy can pronounce whatever he wants however he wants, as far as I'm concerned. He's ******* earned it.

for as longg as I have been a fan, and as many games as I have gone to, three things I got to say are getting way old. Bud Lynch, Karen Newman & the SAME OLD CRAP MUSIC. Someone said it best earlier, we need to hype up the crowd, pizazz it up. Make this place a rocking experience. Kudos to Bud and Karen for all they have done, but lets move on...

Budd is a legend. He can have that job till he is 100, I don't care.

Well Karen is way over done agreed on that. Budd is a staple to the organization and will be doing that until, sadly he passes on. I think the arena needs to liven up for sure and the music will be the same until you change all of that. I like to say I associate all of this "pizazz-less" stuff with winning. So I'll take it.

:Meh:

I'll give you Karen Newman, but Budd is part of the experience. When he dies, I hope they continue to play recordings of his announcements as long as the Joe stands. Same goes for the Hey Hey Hockeytown song.

At least Budd has the excuse that he's 93 years old. I think we can cut him some slack. What's Paul Woods' excuse? He butchers names of both teams nightly. He called Kirk Maltby "Kurt" for the duration of his career in Detroit. During the pre-game tonight he messed up the pronunciations of a bunch of NHL veterans when reading the out-of-town matchups (i.e. Philadelphia's "Scott Hart-NELL"). And that's not even getting into his inability to say consecutive syllables without bridging them with an "uh."

Anyway, great win tonight. Pretty solid effort all around and a good bounce back game. The Wings can always count on undisciplined play by the St. Louis Blues and tonight it was decisive. And congrats to Nick Lidstrom!

Sorry, just because he is old and been around the team for years and lost an arm, doesn't mean it isn't time to move on. My grandfather was in WWII, he did and saw things that you wouldn't believe nor want to hear about, but if I cannot understand what is slurring out of his mouth, I don't wanna listen to him try to talk. But I do love him and I appreciate everything he has done in his lifetime (same with Bud(except the love part.))

I totally agree. That song will never get old as far as I'm concerned.

And Karen Newman is alright by me. Though, it does appear as though all her plastic surgery is catching up with her. She's starting to look like Mark McGrath from Don't Forget the Lyrics.

exactly, which was my original post. Sure, Bud screws up some names, but there are SOOOO many analysts, announcers, color guys out there that do it too, CONSISTENTLY. My thing is is, what else do you have to do but study these guys names? I wish I had that job.
