Travis 576 Report post Posted December 20, 2010 Injured Detroit Red Wings center Mike Modano hopes to return to action from a severed tendon in his right wrist sometime in March, but there is no firm timetable for his recovery.Red Wings GM Ken Holland told ESPN.com Monday that the surgeon who performed the surgery on Modano almost a month ago was targeting sometime in March for Modano's return to the ice. When Modano might actually return to NHL action, though, is fluid. Holland did say they were confident Modano could return before the end of the regular season in mid-April. Modano was cut on the right forearm and wrist by Columbus forward R.J. Umbergerr's skate on Nov. 26, and had surgery the following day. The Detroit area native, the all-time leading scorer among Americans, signed a one-year deal with Detroit in the offseason worth $1.25 million plus $500,000 in bonuses. He struggled to fit into the Red Wings line-up early on, but was finding his groove when the injury occurred. The 40-year-old has two goals and eight points in 20 games for the Red Wings. Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted December 20, 2010 Hopefully he comes back no later than that. I was so excited to see Modano play for Detroit, and it's really sad that he had to get injured this one year by some freak thing that happened. 2 Frozen-Man and Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted December 20, 2010 Good news! Not that he was a huge help to start the season, but veterans are a big help to the post-season. Having him (fully recovered or not) is better than the alternative.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 He had 8 points in 20 games? Wow, he was playing better than I thought. I know, I think he was getting better right before injury. Not spectacularly impressing, mind you, but probably reaching what we expected him to be. I look forward to his return and hope he can be like Dallas Drake, do nothing in the regular season and then inspire and drive the team in the postseason. titanium2 867 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 March huh? Seems like every time one of our boys hopes to come back from injury that we have to add at least another two weeks or a month to their goal.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Well Modano was really starting to get used to the system before he got injured. Even before when he was struggling you could tell he at least had experience as he at times anticipated plays pretty well in 5 on 5 situations whereas Helm/Abdelkader would just skate too quickly or position themselves to low or high etc.
