Was right about the 3 goals against, but SO SO WRONG about our goals!! :yowza: God, what an up and down game. First we're up one, then we're down count 'em 2, then WE just go on this absolute freakin' rampage!! I don't know if I say this enough, so I'll say it again: I LOVE RED WINGS HOCKEY!!! Heck yeah Hudler (keep it up!), heck yeah Howie (for being 1st to 20 goals and for looking really damn solid for 58 minutes of the game), and heck mofo-in' yeah to Eaves! We give you the hats, you give us the fries, we all go home happy. I like it!

Howard has scored 20 goals?

What a game! Tonight breaks a bit of a curse on me, as this is the first road game I've ever seen the Wings win. Every other time they either tied, or lost, dating back to 2001-2002. Very glad to have that particular monkey off my back.

The walk back to the truck was alot more fun too. Usually all the Stars fans are complete a-holes if they win against the Wings. Tonight, they were much more subdued. :sly:

And damn, this is a beautiful sight!

Look at the distribution of ice time among the dmen.

Salei 22:32

Kronwall 22:29

Stuart 21:57

Lidstrom 19:30

Ericsson 17:34

Rafalski 16:17

Pretty cool. Not much difference. It's like the Western Conference standings.

Kronwall played 29 minutes against Colorado.

Babs must be pretty pumped that things are working out well this way. He said back in the summer that he wanted to even the playing times out between the kids and Lids/Rafi. Usually his summer plans get blown up earlier than this (see: splitting the eurotwins up).

Don't doubt Howard...

..but he means first to 20 wins.

Herp derp, sorry about that; I did mean wins. (And actually, she means first to 20 wins, to be picky.)

Shoot, do you suppose I jinxed him out of getting 20 goals by saying that? Well, Howie, if you don't get 20 goals this season, you can blame it on me. ;) Hey, he got an assist tonight, though, so that's a good start! I propose that the next empty-netter should go to Howard.

Couldn't watch the game due to a dentists appointment I'm about to leave to. Just finished watching the highlights from nhl.com and

I can't decide what I like the most about it really. Is it our depth really showing up tonight, our resilience to come back from three fast goals like that and not only tie it up but utterly crush a top 3 team in the conference, or is it HATTY EAVES :siren::siren::siren:

Can't believe I missed it.

Was this game on the NHL Network?

Also, how about all these one timer goals we seem to be having lately? Offense seems to be on fire with those shots.

It's like we have multiple Brett Hull's out there. I love that they're finally taking one-timers, it seems like we hardly ever see that anymore from the Wings. That's why I think we need to lock up Eaves, he does them well and has a rocket of a shot. People always talk about putting Modano or Ericsson on the point on the power play, but it never pans out. What about Eaves? He has that shot and he's defensively responsible.

Also, I think Draper needs to get some attention here. The guy has been great since he came back. A little quiet some of the time, but not hurting the team at all, and lately he's been taking those wicked one-timers in front of the net.

couldn't watch the game, but i listened to about the second half on the radio at work last night. really proud of the team (and howie especially) for rebounding so well after the three-goal outburst in the second. you have a few bad minutes in a game, and that can be a back breaker. proud of the way they responded. congrats to eaves, of course, and howie for being the first goalie to 20 wins (plus he tallied an assist!).

as a side note, the highlights on NHL.com were from FS Dallas, and i was actually really impressed by the dallas commentators, at least from the clips they had in the highlights package. he actually called the away goals with nearly the same enthusiasm as he did the home goals, which is rare (i don't expect any local guys to be totally even, of course -- i'd hate it if ken and mick weren't homers at least to an extent). anyone have to watch the game on FS Dallas and have any thoughts!

good win standing-wise, too. glad dallas didn't even get a point -- we've got some descent separation from them for the time being. vancouver, of course, could take the lead in the conference if they win their two games in hand...and next saturday we play them IN vancouver the night after playing the flames (vancouver plays the night before, too...but at home against edmonton). tomorrow's dallas-vancouver game should be interesting...just hope it doesn't go to OT.

here's hoping they don't take the islanders for granted -- i hate how we often seem to get beaten by s***ty teams. i think i might actually get to watch that game...which will make it the second game i've watched all season (first was the opener way back in october). working overnight sucks.

I've always thought the Dallas announcers were good, although their call of the game last night probably has a lot to do with the large Red Wings fanbase in the DFW metroplex. They have to be bi-polar homers.

How should we judge this game? Are the stars the better team that just got tired after the back-to-back, or were the Wings the better team that started slow after 3 in 4?

Wow what a way to finish the game after allowing 3goals in 1½mins or something

I still don't like the stuart-lidstrom pairing, stuart commited several mistakes early in the game.

Both the Wings and Stars were playing their third game in four nights, but the Wings got the previous night off. Much like earlier in the year when the Wings played Vancouver and skated to a tie going into the second intermission but got blasted in the third, I think the Wings took advantage of a tired team last night.

In either case if the losing team had had its legs going into the third the outcome may have been different, but also could have ended up the same. It's pointless to speculate; back-to-backs, 3-in-4, these are the breaks in the NHL. The point is to win, which the Wings did emphatically yesteday.

Great point about the one-timers. Those really did seem to disappear from Detroit's offensive arsenal after Shanny and Hull left. Huds would rip one off now and then but he was gone last year. It's a threat you need to have to keep the other team honest. If they can time all their blocked shots around guys setting up slapshots, the offense will struggle.

Detroit is now the highest ranked offensive team in the league.

Also most points by defensemen i believe.

This is an interesting point and one that I certainly will be watching for more in upcomming games. It does seem like the Wings have missed a ton of one-timer attempts this season. Also seems like lots of teams just collapse around the net and keep us from scoring when we should be able to blow past them. This makes me want to really watch for one-timers in upcomming games.

That's a good point about one-timers, guys. Probably the best play I've seen Zetterberg make in a week was his one-timer against Vancouver that Lidstrom scored on the rebound of. It was kind of out of nowhere -- how often do we see Hank take one-timers? -- and the shot wasn't a bomb by any means; but the act of having to move across and immediately make a save instead of getting square caused Luongo to pop out the rebound.

Watched the game at the bar with some friends and the place erupted when Eaves got his hattrick. We made sure to do an Eave's goal face after every time he scored. When every Filppula was on the ice for a goal we always do the Filppula victory arm thing that he always does.

This team showed a lot of heart to come back the way they did. Mursak looks like he is just one more game away from potting his first goal or assist. This kid is fast.

As much as Drapes gets bashed here by the ignorant, he's still a gem in his old age. He's scrappy, he's got that veteran savvy, he's hardworking, he's great defensively, he can pitch in offensively, and he's got great leadership abilities.

I always got somewhat irritated with people when they flat-out insulted him.

FoxSportsSW is showing the Wings/Stars game replay from last night.

Ah hahahaha!! It's even better, since I know how this one ends.

I couldn't agree more. Well-stated!

But it's the cool thing to do, though. Don't underestimate the sheep mentality.
