Flyers place Leighton on waivers

Is this going to become a trend now? Granted Leighton didn't play last night, but are the goalies of the NHL going to look at the schedule and see they're playing Detroit and say to themselves, "Oh, s***," and wonder about job security? :P I guess we're just the bad luck charm for those NHL teams with three goalies, eh?

Wow.

He gets all of 1 game to prove himself. A game he got the W on too.

Glad Philly really gave him a chance after, ya know, backing them to the SCF?

Stanley Cup finals to the waiver wire.

Given that he was playing no better than Boucher during the playoffs, and only came in due to Boucher's injury (and started the season as about the 5th string tender, moving up due to injury to guys like Emery) it's not hard to believe that last year's playoff was the height of Leighton's career, rather than a glimpse of what's to come like so many seemed to think.

a list of things I take more seriously than mindfly:

1. A promise from a politician

2. The artistic musical styling of one Justin Bieber

3. The word of an AD in college football that there will not be a coaching change and they are committed to the current coach, after a couple sub-par seasons

4. Brett Favre's retirement announcements

5. The complaints of a woman wearing a low cut, 2 sizes too small shirt, that guys always stare at her boobs

6. The weather report

I could go on...

Brilliant.

This is the trend lately. Goalies are trading teams like they're playing musical chairs. Like Mick said the other night, it's just not a "goalie's league" anymore. They're a dime a dozen and only a very, very, very few are worth multi-year contracts.

Better then Howard...

Are you serious? Please, please, please remind yourself of the stretch run last year. Where Jimmy Howard basically carried us on his back. We wouldn't have made the playoffs without him last year, chew on that. His start this year wasn't bad either...sheez.

Put Jimmy on waivers and watch the ensuing GM on GM violence. Pretty sure Leighton goes unclaimed, but either way, pretty much no one will care anyway.

Roberto-Luongo.jpg

Even Luongo isn't "elite" anymore. The guy used to be, but he's not very "clutch." He's certainly great but like Ken and Mick said the other night, there just aren't any truly dominant goalies in the league.

Do Miller, Lundqvist and Luongo really stack up when compared to Hasek, Roy and Brodeur (in his hey-day)? No.

He started the season as Cam Ward's backup in Carolina.

This whole thing reeks of mismanagement.

Why do you spend the time & money to put someone through a training stint in the jrs, put people on LTIR to make the cap space to keep them, only to waive them days later?

He wasn't great, but he wasn't bad for his one game played.

And it was his first game back in the NHL since Game 6 of the Finals. I would have gone with the three goalie rotation and see how things look at the deadline. For as sub-par as Leighton was in the Finals, he did shut out the Habs three times in the Eastern Finals.
