stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) I know this is just 2 games, but he has a GREAT shot and that right hand shot on the left side for the one timer gives our PP a whole new threat that we haven't had since Hull... I don't know what else the guy has to do to proove it, he flat out has earned the ice time and even when everyone returns, he needs to be given the ice time... Hatchet Barry 71 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 I agree 100%. He has that quick release. The guys hot right now. It's like when you can tell a player is having that break-out type of season. You have to give him his shot. Good on you Eaves, now keep it up. 1 LidsFan reacted to this

CenterIce 83 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 I agree, but unfortunately, we don't want Hudler on the PK. That would be the switch. If Hudler didn't get any special teams play, he would be sitting a lot.

TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 Eaves' goal tonight is proof he needs to be there. It gives another strong threat with the one-timer besides the diversionary streak by a d-man to clear a lane for the point shot.

If Hudler didn't get any special teams play, he would be sitting a lot. It doesn't have to... Modano only getting even strength time and Hudler and Eaves playing PP, done and done. Eaves' goal tonight is proof he needs to be there. It gives another strong threat with the one-timer besides the diversionary streak by a d-man to clear a lane for the point shot. Exactly! Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 You know- his shot reminds me of Hudler's. They're both legit snipers when they have the time and space. The difference between the two is Eaves can still handle himself when he doesn't have the time or space. Perhaps not create scoring chances, but he can protect the puck. Also, yes. As long as our PP is ticking, Eaves needs to be a part of it.
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted January 8, 2011 Enjoy Eaves while you can, I have a funny feeling some team might offer him a contract for way more money than the Wings can give him this upcoming off season.

That's why they need to lock him up long term before he ever gets to FA... as I've said a million times before, he is the type of player you win cups with and with Draper, Modano, maybe Lidstrom, etc retiring, they have the cap space... I'd have ZERO problem with them going as high as 2.5 a year for upwards of 5 years... that's how confident I am in him and that he has found where he belongs(much like Cleary) and can fill MULTIPLE roles... they let him get away and it will be ONE of the biggest mistakes by an otherwise stellar Wings front office in the last 15 years... 1 Motown4013 reacted to this

I see the Wings only giving him that much if Tatar is playing all season with us next year. E needs a new contract and our goaltending duo will never be as cheap as it is now IMO. titanium2 867 Report post Posted January 9, 2011 Wasn't the way Eaves scored that goal pretty much the only way Samuelsson was ever able to score on the PP? I mean, he was supposed to man the point but I recall most of his PP goals came from moving in.
Shaman 713 Report post Posted January 9, 2011 I would say the Wings should keep him on the PP until they are healthy then re-evaluate things at that point. Eaves has been a hot hand, but, (god forbid) doesn't mean it will last forever. If he keeps it up like he has that would be amazing and really help the wings get the injuries they have been having, but, lets not count our chickens. Eaves having been a hot hand may feel like that because he had the hatty...but he's been on the 20-goal pace all season.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted January 9, 2011 10 PP spots and 13 capable players: Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Datsyuk Zetterberg Holmstrom Franzen Hudler Cleary Filppula Bertuzzi Modano and now Eaves ... Hmm... What if Franzen played the point on the 2nd unit? You have Kronwall in his usual spot. Franzen on the other side in shooting position. Hudler in his usual spot, the half wall. Cleary/Bertuzzi at the net. Eaves circling the faceoff dot or in position on the other side for one timers.

We could make 3 pretty solid units. Mule - Hank - Cleary Nick - Stuie Homer - Pav - Eaves Ericsson - Rafi Hudler - Flip - Bert Kronwall - Mo
