All these injuries make me want to mope and weep like Droopy the Dog.

Doesn't Cleary come back soon or is that just wishful thinking?

Esteef,

What happened when Jody Shelley boarded McQuaid earlier this year, was he taken out in an ambulance? No, the officials walked him away, no one did a thing to him. Your over generalizations while comical are not true!

What happened after Cooke cleaned Savard's clock, or when Bergeroen was boarded?

Would I have liked to see dents put into TK's face by a guy like Mac, sure, but that does not add validation to your statement.

Just another chance for the enforcer crowd to jump up and scream:

"See, what did we tell you!"

And your examples are just more chances for the non-enforcer crowd to say "See, what did we tell you." There are examples on both sides. I prefer the beatdown, and in this case, don't stop punching just because Kostopoulos may fall to the ice.

More like loser as how I am a Wings fan and the Wings will not have one of their best dmen for what is mostly likely 9-10 weeks seeing as how the Wings tend to miss a little more time than initially estimated.

Yeah, we all lose. But hey, it could be worse. This could've happened at the beginning of March instead.

Checked again, and Kostopoulos had 801 PIMS in the AHL from '95 to '01-'02. Kinda summarizes the kind of player the Flames go after. Fourth line piece-of-s*** that should be kicked out of the league.

What does the chin strap have to do with that hit? Not only did his helmet stay on, but the dude landed face first.

its a joke

That's what everyone likes to say but I can't recall off the top of my head when anything remotely like that has ever happened.

It hasn't. The NHL brass would have to have balls to do that, even if it is warranted. I think players would actually think twice knowing they could be suspended without pay for weeks for a hit.

Kostopolous should be suspended however long Stuart injury keeps him out.

I've always advocated punishments like that for really out-of-line injuries/hits like what happened to Stuart. The league needs to start cracking down on head shots.

No, my examples prove you are wrong, I said I would want him to get his face dented.

I am anti lets fight at the drop of the puck for no reason, anti lets fight because we are losing by 5, but I am pro Turtle busted Draper's face and needs his head busted in.

Just because I didn't think Downey fit this roster or Shawn Thornton, I am labeled anti enforcer. But I thought May (and definitely Drake) fit this team much better.

You said, if Stuart played for the B's TK would have left in an ambulance and you are wrong and I proved that with recent games.

How can I be wrong on a hypothetical example? And are you really suggesting that never has there been a beatdown after a borderline hit? Then you sir are wrong.

And for the record, I didn't "label" you as anything.

I would hate for someone who absolutely decimated a guy with a horribly cheap hit to the head get off free because the player that was hit just happened to miss 0 games.

Likewise, I would hate for someone to miss the entire season on a questionable hit that happened to concuss the player (with a bad history of concussions) for 82 games.

This. In theory the "eye for an eye" punishment seems fair but honestly there are waaay too many variables to have the rule make any kind of sense.

Meanwhile.... the NHL wasted no time in giving Eager a suspension for last night's game, so.... waiting.

In theory, this is a good way to handle these injuries.

However, the NHL would still screw it up like they do regular penalties now. A player blatantly head-hunting and looking to do real damage would be overlooked, and a well-meaning yet competitive player looking to finish his play, like Kronwall, would end up out for weeks, the same way obvious slashes (ahem . . . see New Year's Eve game against Islanders) are not called but barely making contact with your stick on another player (Bert's penalty last night) is called.

Whatever the NHL does, not just in this case, it would be nice if they were consistent. They called so much attention to the fact they were going to "crack down on these blindsided hits," but they can't pull their heads out of their asses long enough to put together either an established layout for discipline or a better training program for the refs to more accurately identify these hits or both. I think because (1) the heads of the NHL are incompetent beyond belief and (2) it is such a subjective type of penalty that it will be a while before things are satisfactorily worked out and resolved.

Either way, best of luck, Stuie! We wish you a very speedy recovery!

The Thrashers play again tomorrow afternoon, whereas the Flames don't play again until Tuesday. It makes sense that the League put a bit of a rush on the Eager suspension, since they would have wanted to hold the disciplinary hearing before the Thrasher's next game.

I know you'll all be pleased to know that the top subject matter on the right hand of the NHL.com website is. "Sid talks about concussions".

Still not one word about Stuart. Or Kostopoulos. Or the cheapshot Flames. Or how Bettman and/or Campbell suck pucks. Or.... :noevil:

There's one bright spot tonight. The Pens are losing 2-0 to the Wild in the 2nd period. Warms me cockles... :D

Just went back and watched the hit a few more times on Youtube.

Wow it was reckless. Kostopoulos had tons of time to adjust his hit and Stewart had no chance to see it coming. So amazingly disrespectful and dangerous. He could have hit him shoulder to shoulder if he wanted to.
