Kostopoulos suspended 6 games

Rate this topic

When will they start handing out six game suspensions for these hits when they DON'T injure someone...

They need to do that to stop these hits. And when someone with a record does a cheap hit and it injures they need to be punished far more severely. Six games for six to eight weeks is not acceptable. As a league they have to realize what they have done so far has not taken injuries down a peg, and we have to bring it up a notch.

"A number of factors were considered in reaching this decision," said NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell.

I'm sure little consideration was given to this matter. Suspensions and supposed "points of enforcement" these days are pretty much arbitrary. Kostopoulos deserved at least 10 games for that head shot.

As for Gretzky - remember when he referred to the Devils as a Mickey Mouse organization after a game in which the Oilers whipped them 13-4? Sure, at the time it was quite accurate :hehe:. Still, the idea that Gretzky is somehow this sainted individual that everyone loved is ridiculous.

Gretzky was, and is, a ******. Simple as that. So was Lemieux. They were like those pretty girls who KNOW they're pretty, so they think they can get away with everything.

As far as this. Calgary is full of s***. I'd like to send them some eclairs filled with bulldog sperm (I'm sure someone can catch the reference) The hit was EXACTLY what the league wants to get rid of. This is the same guy who practically ended Van Ryn's career.

I'm surprised he got 6. I expected 2, or nothing, honestly. The league hasn't cracked down enough on this s***, clearly. Repeat offenders should be out as long as the injured player, as well as paying medical bills, and giving a BIG chunk of their wage to the injured player. Stuart makes more money than Gutlesss*** (forgot who said that first, but I liked it) and if he had to pay for the amount of money Stuart lost, these dumb, league minimum meatheads might think.

I can't find anything remotely appealing about Crosby. I'd have to be stupid to deny his hockey talent, but beyond that, he deserves absolutely nothing from the league.

We all know why Gretzky was The Great One and it wasn't just because he could rack up a ridiculous amount of points. It was because he could do that and still be humble towards the opposition and respectful of the integrity of the game. He could get his goal in a game, and then he'd focus his energy on setting up his teammates so they could get their goals too. He didn't puck hog. He didn't trash talk. He didn't whine. And he didn't expect the league to wipe his ass after he took a big one.

Crosby is the NHL's baby. They're waiting to wipe his nose when it gets runny and pat his head when he gets injured. Thing is, he has continuously shown a lack of respect for the game of hockey. I'm tired of seeing him skip a handshake because "I didn't know I had to!" I'm tired of hearing him downplay the play of others by making comments such as "well, it's nothing I couldn't have done." And I'm tired of Bettman constantly giving Crosby different rules than other players. (Last year's All Star Game, anybody?)

How this childish punk became "The Next Great One", I'll never know. But as a fan of REAL hockey heroes, I find it incredibly insulting.

/End rant.

if i was much of a writer, this is exactly what i would write

Wings: Suspension for hit on Brad Stuart isn't long enough

Ted Kulfan / The Detroit News

Denver — The Red Wings weren't entirely pleased with the six-game suspension levied Sunday against Calgary forward Tom Kostopoulos.

It was Kostopoulos who blindsided Brad Stuart with a hit to the head and resulted in Stuart having a broken jaw. Stuart will be out to two months, Kostopoulous only six games.

"It was a little too short," Henrik Zetterberg said of the suspension. "It should be more than that. It was an illegal hit and our guy is gone for six weeks and he (Kostopoulous) will miss six games. It should be longer than that.

"Six games, you can take that easily. It should be more than that."

Said Nicklas Lidstrom: "Blows to the head, if you want to get rid of them, that's one way of doing it."

Coach Mike Babcock felt the league did all it could, yet the Wings won't have a valuable defenseman for maybe two months.

"A six-game suspension doesn't add up for me for six weeks," Babcock said. "But you can't suspend a guy longer.

"(Head shots) continue to be an issue in the NHL. You can talk all you want about intent or no intent. Is it (a head shot) or is it not? Period. It's simple for me.

"If you want to eliminate hits you have to be real stiff with suspensions. But in saying that, I don't think the guy (Kostopoulous) deserved to be suspended longer. Lots of times guys get hurt on clean plays and guys don't get suspended on that. It doesn't work that way.

"Yet it's a big loss for us. Stewie is an important guy. Obviously you don't want to see it happen."

On the injury front, Valtteri Filppula (groin) will be a game-time decision. Filppula participated in the morning skate and said he felt good, but trainers will determine whether he plays near game time.

Chris Osgood is meeting with a groin specialist in Philadelphia later this afternoon, said general manager Ken Holland.

I hope Milbury feels like an ass for defending this hit.. but seeing how stubborn he is on issues I highly doubt it. As I said.. an ass. It's one thing to have an opinion, quite another to stick up for a blatant disregard for human safety and try to back it up with so-called "facts"

He doesn't think he did anything illegal? Pull the other one, fool.

And remember this - hockey players have long memories.

You are correct on that one. Did you see when Stuart was leaving the bench to go to the dressing room, when he got halfway into the tunnel he absolutely smashed the s*** of out his stick. I thought holy crap this guys mad, and a mad stuart is a great stuart to have.

I hope they give him the works and embarrass him on so many levels. Three things: A fight, of course, that he loses and I don't really care to whom; make sure he's chasing the puck the whole time and have Datsyuk pull a Houdini act and make him collide with one of his teammates like he did on Grier and Clowe; lastly, draw one or two penalties that lead to goals.
