Really, no Zetterberg?

We have the 2nd best record in the entire league and we have only 1 guy going to the all star game. Honestly, I wish Lids could have the time off also but I can't believe that none of the other Wings were picked.

The worst in the league Oilers have 3? Are you kidding me? This is a joke.

Wow...

No Datsyuk

No Zetterberg

No Franzen

No Kronwall

Lids just needs to fake an injury and we're golden.

The only thing that would be better than not being chosen for the ASG would be if they just got rid of it altogether.

Nope. Voting just picked six "starters"...that aren't even necessarily starters. Then the league picks the remaining players. Then the pool of players, combined from votes and NHL picks, votes on who the two captains are.

I'm assuming it will be Crosby captaining both teams.

What I'd really like to see is a conspiracy among all the players to not pick Ovechkin and Crosby until the very end.

You haven't been paying attention. It will be Crosby and Ovie - Just like the Winter Classic, the Olympics, the HBO Special, the games on versus, etc.

I read that they were going to change the format of the playoffs so the Western Conference 8 team playoff is only an exhibition and the Eastern Conference Finals winner will be awarded the Cup. Washington and Pittsburgh are favored to play in that series.

I'm kinda on the fence here. I think it's great that most of the Wings will get the rest they deserve. But on the other hand its kind of a slap in the face.. Correct me if I am wrong but are the Wings not the 2nd best team in the NHL right now and 2nd(?) highest scoring team.. Yet they get the same amount of all stars as New Jersey. I think the NHL might still be a little bitter over the fact that the Wings pretty much told them f*** off last time when Dats and Lidstrom sat out.

I think it's how the League organizes the game more so than the player. The NHL tries to have as many teams represented as possible, leaving a lot of questionable picks. With 30 teams, it doesn't leave much.

For what it's worth, today on Hockey Central on Toronto's FAN590, Zetterberg not making the team is a big topic of conversation. Greg Brady (former Detroit radio personality) and Doug McLean (former Red Wings employee and Blue Jackets GM), said no Zetterberg is a glaring, since he's Zetterberg and the 6th highest scorer in the league.

I wasn't going to watch anyway, but with all the injuries I'm glad our players will get a rest. I hope Lidstrom says, "nuts to you" and takes a break as well

The skills competition is the only thing worth watching during the All-Star game weekend.

I guess if they have to include someone from every team it makes sense why so many crappy players were picked over better options from all teams.

No Luongo, Zetterberg, etc. is just a crime if this were a real "all-star" lineup.

Not going to boycott. Just not watching. No sense in another Crosby slobber-fest.

It was a little tongue-n-cheek, referring to the Boycott Winter Classic thread.

It is odd that Luongo is not playing either. Think it may of came down to GAA and SV%?

I'm dumbfounded as to how Carey Price made it over Jimmy Howard.

He's had a better season than Jimmy. All Howard has is win totals. His save percentage and goals against average suck. :(

I have to laugh that Zetterberg is tied for 6th in scoring and didn't make their list of forwards.

I'm glad Enstrom got named to the team. He's quietly having an excellent season.

Oops, my sarcasm meter was broken this morning. :P

I've heard whisperings that he may have asked the league for an out to spend time with his baby. Wish Nick had thought of something like that, if true.

Lidstrom should boycott this joke. Fans should not be voting for the All-stars at all. It should be based on STATS.

And why does Chicago get 3 forwards? They are a mediocre team now, who will likely barely make the play-offs. This thing is a joke.

on LeBrun's twitter, he said he thinks the wings most likely asked the league to not pick zetterberg...and people are complaining datsyuk isn't there? if the league is picking the remaining players, why would they pick someone who most likely won't be able to play? Who really cares? all star games haven't been fun since the 90's.

Just when you think the ASG couldnt get worse, it somehow does. They were definately making sure each team was represented but that doesnt explain why Perry, Kesler and Sharp were picked over Hank. There were already Ducks, Hawks and Nucks represented. Hank has more points than all but 5 all-stars and hes not there. Complete joke.

I think LeBrun has to be right, there is no way the league just missed Zetterberg and put in Kelser, Kane, Sharp and Erricsson ahead of him when those teams were already represented. As for Howard he is 29th in both save percentage and gaa, he shouldn't be in the all star game.

What is Price's GAA and SV% versus Howard?

It's not even close. I don't see how anyone could suggest Jimmy Howard deserves to go to the ASG.

Wins: Howard 22 - Price 21

GAA: Price 2.31 - Howard 2.78

Save Percentage: Price .921 - Howard .907

Price has 4 shutouts, Howard 2.

So besides playing for arguably the best team in the league and accumulating wins, Carey Price is destroying Howard.

Shanny confirms that some players requested to not be selected for the ASG.

@NHLShanny:

Without mentioning teams/players, the answer is yes. NHL was approached by certain players thru their GM. Battling injuries & need to heal.

Funny how that's okay this season.
