Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 You know what, if Hall didn't like the hit, let him go for Doughty. You don't need to fight everyone's battles.

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 That's a great, clean, hard hit. I understand protecting your fellow team mates, but come on. Does there really need to be stuff like that after every CLEAN hit? I can understand if the hit was dirty, but that's a good solid hit by Doughty.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 If a Wing was stupid/naive to get hit like that I'd expect a scrum, but whoaaaaaa what a beauty of a hit!!!! You know what, if Hall didn't like the hit, let him go for Doughty. You don't need to fight everyone's battles. He did. He jumped right up and went after him. What were you watching? The announcers talk about it being a head shot, but it was a friggin hip check. If you get hit in the head with someone's ass, you probably had your head down. I'm glad Penner got the extra two. The guys jumping players after a clean hit should definitely get the extra penalties. I wouldn't mind some misconducts either. Once in a while I get that it's gonna happen after a big hit, but it's gotten ridiculous. EDIT: Honestly watching the video again, there should've been match penalties to at least one Oiler. Not sure if it was Penner. A clean hit is a hockey play. Grabbing a guy from behind who's already on his knees and punching him in the back of the head is not. Penner was the only one that got any sort of penalty out of the whole skirmish, which surprises me. I never remember there being anyone running after Scott Stevens after he annihilated someone with a good hard hit.
Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted January 16, 2011 He did. He jumped right up and went after him. What were you watching? I said "let him go for Doughty." Not "go for Doughty." The difference there is very important and it illustrates the point I was making. Hall should have been the one to stand up for himself. Not the entire Oilers team. I never remember there being anyone running after Scott Stevens after he annihilated someone with a good hard hit. Rarely. People have tried to make it sound like that's the way it's always been, but it's just not true. Sure, if Steve Yzerman gets run at, there's a good chance Bob Probert would come over and say hi sometime during that game. But the entire team didn't immediately jump that player from behind and come in swinging. It used to be more acceptable for a player to get rocked and his entire team didnt immediately need to come to his rescue. It was just part of the game and everyone gets caught once in a while. Like I said, I get that there's gonna be scrums sometimes. But it's gotten way out of hand. Someone in that video went Bertuzzi style on the back of a Kings player. Doughty throws a great hipcheck, and they lose Simmonds for the game because he's injured in the scrum. It's ridiculous.

It's gotten way out of hand. Someone in that video went Bertuzzi style on the back of a Kings player. Doughty throws a great hipcheck, and they lose Simmonds for the game because he's injured in the scrum. It's ridiculous. not defending the Oilers on the ice's reaction but from the wrong angle it did look like a hit to the head. It's ridiculous for a full scrum to erupt from one good hit but when foul play is suspected it's not necessarily the wrong move for teammates to retaliate (or even just come in to help protect the hitee). That said, the blind punch was equally ridiculous as an overreaction to a good hit. Even the announcers weren't sure of the intention and placement of the elbow's contact until they saw the replays : it was determined to be about the collarbone area. That said, great classic use of a completely unused hipcheck in modern hockey. I think Hall will be more aware from now on... heh...
