McDonald would have been the backup and Howard would have played many games as starter.

You're obviously a Howard homer, so it's hard to argue with you. But he's been poor this year, and they're looking at other options. You don't bring in Nabokov just to be a backup. He'll be given a good chance to be the starter if he comes to the Wings.
