Wings Negotiating w/ Nabokov

Things to consider...

Kenny has some serious man love for Chris Osgood and we are a pretty upstanding organization.

I have a hard time believing Kenny is doing this knowing he has about a 3.67% chance that no one picks up Evgeni. If that were the case, he probably just nearly killed Jimmy Howard's (what I believe to be) fragile confidance. All of a sudden, in one high risk (goalie moral wise) move, Osgood probably thinks Kenny believes his season (or career) is over, Jimmy thinks he isn't/cant be THE guy, and McDonald thinks he can't even be a backup during an injury. Since we've explored most other crazy scenarios, its seems that is indeed what is happening or the other 27 teams have been told by Nabby's agent that he won't play for them.

I also think its pretty far fetched that we would negotiate with Nabby 100% for another team in hopes that they would put Johan Hedberg or some other journeyman backup on the trade block for us. NJ knows theyd have first dibs on waivers, why dont they sign him? Why go through this mess.

Option # 1

The price means the he must have wanted to play for us, now a team might grab him and he may never play for them, but on July 1st all bets are off, and I'd think that Nabby won't mind the possibility of a bidding war then.

Option # 2

He may just be agreeing to get back into the NHL before no one gives him another chance.

Look at all the press today, its like the Heatley sweepstakes last year. Nabby might not sign if interest is high enough to get a 4 mill-ish contract.

Option #3

Kenny doesn't seem the type to abuse a players trust. So he may have some secret backroom thing, i've seen weirder, but I highly doubt we see Nabby on the Wings this year. Discount next year for helping get his foot in the door, or some weird,backroom,sign-waive- player&pick for privlage&player(likely muscled out backup)

am I missing any other audibles?

Daniel F-ing Larsson. Kenny, please fix your mistake and get him back here. You are the best GM in the NHL, but even you are capable of flubs. We don't want another washed up, nearing the end of their career goaltender in Nabby.

I was just thinking about that too. Salei is pretty much Russian right? Markov too but other than them they haven't really dealt with many Russians.

When did you start watching hockey?! The Red Wings started the Russian craze in the NHL with the russian five! Recently it has more to do with the KHL and the transfer agreement with the IIHF than anything else.

Larsson wasn't even a great AHL goaltender... Plus he has a bad attitude. See Ya!

I most certainly did not write that! Plus, signing Emery is like signing Vince Young.

I certainly hope you're wrong about Vince. I want to think he just needs to play where he's wanted.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

We still own the rights to Larsson. Plus he didn't want to stay in North America. maybe we'll sign him in the summer to back up JHo?
