Matt

Nabokov claimed by NYI, refuses to report, suspended

has anyone looked through nabbys agents clients and seen who is going to be a free agent at the end of the season?

The way i see it, if nabby doesnt end up a wing, his agent owes us a favor (because getting nabby back in the NHL is cash in his pocket as well) and could maybe convince a player he represents to to resign and come to the wings.

all that aside, i really dont see him becoming a wing.

He basically represents everyone LOL

!!!Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings!!!

All rumors have come full circle, this is obvious posturing for the signing of Doughty, after Meehan tells the KINGS to be afraid of matching the offer sheet!

g'night i'ts getting too crazy, one more theory and I will pop.

Quick question, would New Jersey get him as soon as they put a claim on him because they are in last spot and no one could trump them or would it still have to be the 24 hour period until they did

Have to wait.

24 hours is so all teams can enter their claim, and then at the end of the 24 hours the lowest gets it, there will be a "winner" at 12:01 pm Saturday.

I saw the list, i was specifically wondering who is going to be a UFA at the end of this season or next season.

While i know my original idea is a huge long shot, its still a interesting thing to think about.

*more conspiracy*

this move is just posturing to get a legit #1 d-man after lids retires.

BTW, I think McKenzie was wrong when he said Detroit would get first pick if he was put on Waivers again.

Was about to post this, but I had posted pages back that the waivers work the same, no matter what, lowest % team gets first choice.

Then McKenzie comes out of nowhere with 3 or 4 tweets and boom i'm back wondering what I missed in the CBA, only to find he is still using the old waiver rules, lol.

I threw the Drew Doughty idea out there last page :P

I think 90% of LGW fans would have no objection to this, but the conspiracy vs. the reality is fading, likely we get neither Nabokov or anything at this point.

If we do get Nabby, then agent threats might just bring us Mr Doughty. Frolov didn't stay, there must be something wrong there, but this is all wild speculation.

Ok, so with Datsyuk, Draper, Ozzie, and Clary's LTIR this season, the Wings have $2.3 million in capspace available this season.

Why couldn't they offer him a couple million for the year? Pro-rated to the 30-some games left.I think they weren't able to offer him that much, but I don't know why.

I think there is a 20-30% chance he clears waivers. Teams like EDM have the Bulin Wall and Dubnyk, what happens if they pick up another goalie? NJ has Brodeur and Hedberg. I guess the team to look out for is the Islanders since they don't really have any goalies :scared:

Tampa Bay might be willing to dump Ellis or Smith for Nabokov. I wonder if Yzerman is going to gamble on Nabokov (good gamble in my book).

because ur initial premise is wrong

they dont just get free cap space coz of injuries

LTIR isn't banked.

The Players on LTIR, their contracts are essential null and as if they aren't even on the team. Once they come off LTIR, their contract is back on as if the player wa son the team since day one. Which is why if you have a player making 2mil, and he is injured exactly half way through the season, we have 1 mil to work with. The player gets healthy, now we have to clear that 1mil to activate him to the roster.

I thought they could go over the cap by that amount? What is the point of putting a player on LTIR and saving some money against the cap?

Because you aren't saving. It's like you're getting a credit card with a spending limit up to that players contract. That credit card has a 0% interest rate and needs to be paid off exactly the moment you want to activate your LTIR player.

That's bad news haha, thanks for explaining it. Wings had to offer Nabokov almost league minimum! What a joke.

All we can hope for is that teams are handicapped with 2 goalies on the roster. Or cap issues: there are 5 other teams right up against the cap, and 5 more with only a few hundred thousand left.

Right. I'm actually shocked that anyone here thinks the Wings have given up on Howard. He's only 26 and, despite a couple shaky months, is one of the best young goalies in the game. Ozzie's retiring after this year, Nabokov, at 35, is Osgood's replacement, Howard's going no where!

So what will NJ get in return?

Fined? :P

This guy would be an amazing addition. He is only 35 and left the NHL on a very good season. Over 10 NHL years with the Sharks his save percentage has been below .900 once and under .910 one additional time. Career totals of 0.912 regular season and believe it 0.913 post-season.

If this in any way turns into a situation where Nabokov is actually a Wing, what I'm hearing is that the Wings are not happy with Howard and he's unlikely to get much of a raise next year if even he returns at all. It would be a bit of a bulls*** move if you ask me. I know Jimmy hasn't been playing well this year, but I think that's largely due to mismanagement of his development over the last year. It just seems lame to set him up to fall apart and then to seemingly give up on him when he does indeed fall apart. It's one thing with Osgood as there's a relationship and support system installed already whereas it's clear that Nabokov would be coming in because we've got a mess on our hands right now. Even if it's just to try and push Howard, it just seems like a dumb move. Granted, who knows what's really going on, but something about this whole thing is fishy to me.

Fishy? Why? Don't forget Holland is an ex-goaltender that managed the whole Hasek/Cujo debacle and let Osgood go as well. I'm not surprised. Jimmy has been spoon fed to where he is today.

More talks about a possible deal with NJ

http://twitter.com/wharnscbcsports

I guess my issue with making a deal to put Nabby back on waivers is that the NHL might suspect circumvention, which may lead to a fine, loss of draft picks, etc.

edit: actually I came across this bit of info at hfboards, which DEBUNKS THE RUMOR THAT WINGS GET FIRST DIBS SHOULD NABBY BE PLACED ON WAIVERS AGAIN:

"That is the default rule for Waivers (Article 13.20(b)). If a player is claimed on Waivers and the claiming team wants to trade him during the remainder of that season - he has to be offered at waiver price to any team which put in an unsuccessful lower priority waiver claim.

In this case, that is superseded by 13.23 which explicitly states that in the case of a player who was waived due to playing overseas (Svatos, Wellwood, Nabby, etc) and was claimed, then he has to clear a new round of Waivers (where any team can make a claim) before he can be traded."

In short, if Holland is pulling some strings behind the scenes, the end result won't be Nabby in Detroit, unless its next year. There may be something going on where some team picks up Nabokov, then trades the Wings their backup to make room.

It's a plot. A plan, a scheme, a design, a tarp.

Nabby is only the first. He gets claimed, and then it will be Emery, then another, then another, until every team under us has either passed on or claimed a goalie. Then- and only then- will Holland come out with his true objective. Hasek. And he will be ours! All ours! Mwahahahahahaha.

Datsyuk is the only player on LTIR. Just because they have long term injuries doesn't mean they are automatically placed on the LTIR list.

How does that saying go, "In for a penny, in for a pound"?

Edit: I'm starting to think with everything put in his contract, and Nabokov probably refusing to report to any team but the Wings, he'll clear.

Should be interesting. Something else to follow this weekend with the NFL Playoffs and Wings-B.Hawks
