Somehow, the thought of a good thick book to read is looking better and better.

Then again, it would be a damned good time to clean off my DVR and get my games over to disk.

Can you guys quit s***ting on Raleigh? In case you weren't aware, Raleigh, NC is not out in Hicksville with the people whose family trees don't fork. There's plenty of areas like that all over this state (sadly), but Raleigh's not one of them. There's a TON of transplanted Northerners from the Midwest and Northeast living there and in Cary (think Westchester, NY), so it's actually very, very non-rural/Deliverance. The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area is one of the most educated, affluent parts of the state.

They should have the "big four" play.

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax.

Metallica belongs with Clay Aiken... I approve of the rest though. ;)

Do you honestly think the people you are explaining this to care? Lol

Of course they don't care. Therein lies the problem. I'm not a native North Carolinian, but I do live here now, and I take pride in where I live, the same as anyone else here. So when people start dumping on where I live, that's a problem.

It's not my fault that some people here are ignorant buffoons.

ive actually been to north carolina.

not bad of a place if you ask me.

it just so happens my friend goes to U of NC so whenever i go down and visit him i go to a couple of their games.

i take pride in where i live too so i get your reasoning.

majority of people (mostly idiotic americans) think we live in iggloos and s***e...

it was funny for awhile..now its just downright annoying! but unfortunately its never gonna die. lol

The first mistake every event seems to make is to "get the local talent" for WHATEVER event they have. Just like in Detroit, where we wheel out the Temptations or Kid Rock for every event we can. And if we can't, we get the Romantics or Anita Baker, because they're FROM here. How about getting someone who is RIGHT FOR THE EVENT?

I HATE Nickelback and I want them all to go away as soon as humanly possible, but they would be better for this event than CLAY FREAKIN AIKEN? Isn't Hootie from that area? Dave Matthews? ANYONE else?

Just let them be ignorant then. More space for people who aren't ignorant in NC then. :P

Raleigh is beautiful. My dad always said that if he had to move out of Michigan, he'd go to North Carolina. He might think differently if I tell him Clay Aiken is from there. Lol.

North Carolina is amazing I hear. I have friends who live down there and they just love it. I'd like to live there some day.

That being said, it's still fun to poke fun at them for having a hockey team, although at least Carolina is a stable market.

Halftime for the Super Bowl = Play some sort of drinking game or check my prop bet status.

No biggie as to who performs at really any of these to me. Doesn't add/take away from the event to be honest. Just something to complain about, I suppose. LGW thumbup.gif

God. It's a joke. We take it about living in Michigan/Detroit all the time. but no, you have to bring out the name calling. I thought you were more consistently open minded than that. You expect everyone to take a thumb in the eye when you are right and they are wrong; to be more tolerant of others rights. But when you get dogged a little, by a joke, I might add, we're ignorant buffoons. Nice. Why you gotta bully your way through things/ people all the time. You're not that important you know. Or no more important than anyone else. Even if they are wrong and you are right. Sometimes you come across as flat-out mean, imho. It's not my intention to bait or flame. Just wondering why you don't lighten up some?

My best friend and her husband worked at Duke University in grad school. It's an awesome area. Still think it's weird to see hockey there, but no stranger than Nashville or Phoenix. Or Florida. I sometimes almost forget they have two (2) teams. Whatever.

As for this ridiculous farce they are calling an All Star (shame) weekend: I am so glad no one here cares enough about hockey to turn this thing on, as they might think what they are watching actually represents the game I love. It doesn't even resemble a showcase of actual talent and skill. Badly executed, smarmy and hilarious in sort of an out-of-control giggle fit where you can't breathe anymore fashion.

So bad, it's funny? No. It's not even funny. More like sad. I wish Nick didn't feel like he has to go. I don't even plan to waste DVR space on it.

What's wrong with Nickelback, by the way? How about Five for Fighting? At least they have the name right. :P

I'd love to see the Stooges and the White Stripes playing a show in Detroit. Those are some seriously influential groups. I don't know why people think Kid Rock is so good. He's awful, and everything he touches is s***.

For the record, wasn't s***ting on Raleigh at all, was just commenting on the Deliverence image. Apologies. I live in the UK so I can really say much since our society is going downhill and fast and would honestly love to visit as many places in the US as I possibly can!

Plus my University (University of Surrey for what its worth) is apparently twinned with UNC :) Our students go there for a foreign study year!

You must be very cold

I joke, my Auntie lives in Toronto. I'm a poker, I poke :)

On topic however, at least their only singing the National Anthems, but even then it could be much cooler....

"And just what's wrong with inbred rednecks?" asks she of that ilk, albeit from further north than the fine state of North Carolina.

I don't think they'll ever get a musical performance at a big event that suits everyone, but geesh... nothing screams "NOT HOCKEY!" like Clay Aiken.

I power voted for Clay Aiken during his season of American Idol

Still, I'm not sure why The Big Game of whatever type it is really needs an intermission musical act at all. Give the tv viewers highlights of the sport involved, give me dancing bears that may or may not be thinking of mauling Dan Patrick, just something other than songs that were actually relevant 10-25 years ago and are now being trotted out again for the sole reason that the audience is familiar with them and can drinkenly sing along.
