Final score and recap now in OP.

"All done? Five bucks." - Pavel Datsyuk after an interview
"Very few cities in the NHL have the history or the following of the Detroit Red Wings." - Steve Yzerman

Lidstrom was a minus simply because Howard couldn't control a rebound. And didn't happen to be one of the lucky ones out on the ice when Detroit's forwards did the work.

Though Salei made a good play in the Devil's zone for the second goal.

How dare you, did you even SEE the snow angels Howard was making, they were brilliant!

What we've learned:
Helm/Flip step up when needed
Hudler has finally caught up to the game
Lidstrom can't catch a break (but it was one of his not so great games)

Most importantly OUR YOUTH IS BEAST!
Emmerton and Murzak should be stealing 2 spots next season, and Kindl has looked prettyf****** good!
There's no I in team, but there's a U in c***, so don't be little jealous c***s

Just got back from the game. Thank you, boys, for the win!

Some notes:
1. Nice to see Helm actually finish on one of his breakaways.
2. Zetterberg was robbed with those two penalties, especially the 2nd one (obviously).
3. Kindl look REALLY good out there. I am more and more impressed with his play each game.
4. Emmerton and Mursak know how to hustle out there.
5. Other than the first goal, Jimmy looked pretty solid out there.
6. Poor Patty looked like he was going to puke just before he got to the bench. And, no, he didn't come back to the bench after going to the dressing room. Any news on him?
7. Just before Flip skated onto the ice when Budd "called" his name, he smiled while looking off to the right. That was *me* he smiled at after I smiled at him.

I love how our forwards are producing offense. For years it seemed like our offense always originated with the defense. It's nice to see us playing a system where the D-men are still involved in the offense, but we don't have to depend on it. I think a lot of it is because when our team is healthy, we play a very tight system and attempt a neutral zone lock....but since we're made of glass and all these young/rookie guys are in the line-up, we're seeing a lot more creative play making by the forwards than we use to see. We'll need that when guys like Lidstrom hang up the skates.

But, that's just my opinion. And I'm thinking in terms of "This year" versus "The past few years".

Can't wait till Datsyuk is back. I'm going through withdraw.
And Boom goes the Dynamite.

I feel sorry for this league for when Datsyuk, Cleary, Homer, Modano, and Stuart are all back.

With Kindl playing adequately and Hudler finding his form and Filppula showing that he is easily a second line center, there is NO stopping this team!

When was the last time we saw this team run on all cylinders? And by that... I guess I mean each line displays the ability to both sustain pressure in the other team's zone and yet it quick to recover defensively? Would that be a good qualitative description?

"Nice pass from (Ruslan) Salei to Huds, then Huds made another good pass to me," Filppula said "I'm just glad I didn't miss the net."

He's currently on pace for roughly 20 goals and 35 assists. That's pretty good.

It is. Still... I'm with him in that I'm just glad he didn't miss the net. Less ammo for the Anti-Fil crew.

Wow 55. That'd be great. But did you just estimate that in your head?

#points / #games = PPG
30 / 46 = 0.65 PPG
------------------
X / 79 = 0.65
X = 51.35

I like Flip. I think he's going to bring it in the playoffs this year.

Watching this team play, it seems like a lot of guys are slowly starting to find their niche. Hell, sometimes I even notice Hudler out there lately, seems like he's finally trying.

Flip is no exception. Fact is the guy can skate, and he can shoot, and he has a solid offensive awareness, he's just not consistent so for every two good games he has, he has a bad game and it's always easier to remember the bad games :)

I would have liked to see him at 60+ points by this point in his career, but I'll take 50 and a solid playoff performance, so lets hope Flip brings it come Spring. His production is perhaps a little bit low for what "we" expect from a second line center, but I can think of a lot of teams who would kill for Flip to center their second lines.

Whenever I see debates about the Wings, I think to what a comedian said about Transformers. He joked that all his friends were jaded movie critics who mostly talked s*** about the movie....but he then made the comparison "If you showed that movie 50 years ago, people would go insane!" Nobody, and I mean nobody would have talked s*** about that movie in 1950....if anything the CGI and effects in it alone, would be enough to get people burned on the stake as sorcerers. Now though, we're like...eh, whatever....Seen better.

In accordance, the fact that Detroit has rocked for two decades.....produces a lot of jaded, dissatisfied fans. Ignore the fact that we win most games, and have a valid shot at the cup every single year. Ignore the fact that we have one of the most entertaining (And occasionally frustrating) teams to watch.

If it was 1985, we'd be begging to have Flip on our team :) It's amazing how much of our opinions is based on perspective. Comparison.

"A king once demanded that his fishermen find him the most delicious fish in the sea. For months they headed out on ships and shorelines, each bringing back a feast finer than the rest. The king discarded them all, casting them from his castle window into the streets below and in his frustration vowed not to eat until he was provided with the best fish in the sea. The king died of starvation before he was satisfied, meanwhile the peasants below gathered up his discarded fish and prospered."

It's just a story, and I'm bored :-p

Most of us know or can easily deduce that nobody is more aware of Filppula's shooting history than he is, which is why he opts to pass so much. In fact, he's way too aware of it. When he's confident he actually has a good shot. It's easier said than done but I think we'd all wish that he would just forget about the shots he took that didn't work out so well.

Agree. He does not have a bad shot. He does seem to have a game where he comes out and takes a few desperate shots to no avail, and then just goes into pass mode.

I think my favorite thing about this game tonight was Franzen. He tried to score like fifteen times, and he didn't finally net one until the final few minutes of the game. But I kept saying all game long, "Oh he's getting one this game", cause I just saw that determination in him. Franzen looked like a man on a mission tonight, and while it took like 58 minutes of trying (I think 5 shots, and a few missed shots), he stuck with it and scored, locking the game away.

Flip could score more. We know it. Babcock knows it. Flip knows it.

When any hockey player starts questioning themselves, they start hesitating. Flip is a man of hesitation. In life, it's a positive quality, cause it gives you inspiration to realize your flaws, and become stronger. In hockey, hesitation works the opposite....it makes less happen, and frustration grows. Flip is a 60 point guy, if he ever starts to believe and play like it.

I think Wings fans are a little mixed up as to how much production we should expect from Filppula. Kenny said that he thinks Filppula CAN, as in, has the potential, to provide 70 points as a 2nd line center. Should he? As in, do they need him to? When you have guys like Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Franzen? Not... really.

Kenny threw out that number while the media and fans ran with it big time but I don't think that's exactly what he along with the rest of the organization expect from Filppula. Numbers wise, he's probably doing fine in their eyes.

As far as the story you told... Good stuff, haha. I don't know what else to say about that.

Flip could score more. We know it. Babcock knows it. Flip knows it.

Well, Fil knows that he SHOULD score more. In other words, the team needs him to provide secondary scoring.

He doesn't quite know that he COULD score more. As in, he doesn't quite fully believe or have enough confidence in his ability to execute and put up points. At least not yet.

I thought to myself last night "when was the last time I say Flip roof a puck?" I can't honestly remember - everything seems to go waist high. I'm think it is indeed a offensive skill issue intertwined with confidence issue. I don't think confidence alone will solve it, but as with Helm he has enough going on that he can continue to create a lot of chances and the more he can bury is just icing on the cake.
