theman19 47 Report post Posted January 26, 2011 a long article with lots of nuggets from around the league. Here's one that caught my eye though: "Cory Emmerton scored his first NHL goal on Saturday. When the Red Wings were acquiring Todd Bertuzzi from Florida, the Panthers initially asked for Emmerton. But Detroit wanted to keep him, so Shawn Matthias went instead." http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/elliottefriedman/2011/01/the-nabokov-mess-and-30-thoughts.html Interesting stuff, does anyone give them emmerton instead? eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted January 27, 2011 Hell no, you keep Emmerton, good choice by our brass. I wouldn't have traded either, honestly.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 27, 2011 At the time, Emmerton looked like he was a lock for a top six role, Shawn looked like he could possibly slot into the top six someday. Emmerton just needed to be healthy. This thread should be fun, can't wait til' it turns into a "Holland's only human after all, he messed up big time with this trade"

This thread should be fun, can't wait til' it turns into a "Holland's only human after all, he messed up big time with this trade" What draft picks did we include in the trade? So we can look back in hindsight at what superstars we might of missed.

Guest Crymson Report post Posted January 27, 2011 Matthias currently has 15 goals and 21 points in 121 NHL games. Everyone here freaked out when he scored two goals in his first game, but he hasn't really done much since then.
thegerkin 189 Report post Posted January 27, 2011 I was and am still a fan of this trade. Huge fan of Bert's, and while he's not the same as he was in Vancouver, he's found a good spot here with the Wings.
Joey v3.4 45 Report post Posted January 27, 2011 I was and am still a fan of this trade. Huge fan of Bert's, and while he's not the same as he was in Vancouver, he's found a good spot here with the Wings. Considering he put up 97 points once in Vancouver, I nominate "While he's not the same as he was in Vancouver" as understatement of the year But yeah I like the guy. Cool to see Em get a goal the other night too...even if we did lose that game Mattias was fast tracked into the NHL out of need. I don't think he was ready, and if he had stayed in Detroit he'd be in the AHL still. Good for us cause Em seems to be developing well, good for Mat cause he could very well have ended up a lifetime AHLer if not for being traded.
