Our D is so effing bad. Why the F can't the rest of the coaching staff see that McCrimmon needs to go ASAP?

Um, the problem is not one coach. McCrimmon coaches the defensemen. That doesn't mean he came up with and enacted the entire defensive game plan. That would be all three coaches. Defense requires all five guys on the ice working together. As it can be seen, the Wings start and end periods flat. I believe that is mostly on the players relaxing too much. They need a full focused 60 minutes.

lol i knew Detroit would have a problem tonight.

hate to say it, and i know the goals wern't his fault. but howard isn't gonna take us to the promise land. looks shakey every game!

I didn't get to see the first goal, but the other two were basically from two uncovered players getting off fast shots. Goalies play angles. They have to take the guy with the puck and have to leave the rest of the guys to their teammates.

In all honesty how responsible is McCrimmon? Is he like a defensive coordinator in football? If it was a scheme thing shouldn't we ultimately hold Babs responsible?

Defensive coach. And any team he's come to as a defensive coach (Atlanta being the most recent, I believe) has suffered a precipitous drop in defensive statistics when compared to the previous season without him.

next time someone goes to a wings game, make a huge sign saying fire mcCrimmon hes ruining our defense. or run up behind babs and scream it all game

This sign idea is still a good idea in my book. I'd like for the Detroit press to investigate this sort of thing. Maybe a fan with an obnoxious sign will finally get the media talking about it so that we can clarify for sure whether or not we should be dragging McCrimmon's name through the mud.

A message has to be sent. Our defensemen, not just our defense, have fared much more poorly under McCrimmon than McLellan. I'm not going to come out and say what exactly is going on with the D, but maybe a shake up on the defense coaching end will light a fire under the defensive portion of some players games and get them to play better. I just do not know what else it could be. All of our players suck on D now? Why?

Holland and Babs are usually pretty sharp guys. Seems strange they would have a defensive coach who sucks. Maybe Babcock should stare at him some more?

The most frustrating thing about McCrimmon is that MacLean was a great D-coach before he moved into McLellan's old spot.

We should have hired to replace McLellan and never should have moved MacLean from his old job...

Outside of the 2008 cup year and maybe a little the next, the Wings D has been like this for years. They usually try to enforce their will by their offense. Their minus first period goal differential in the first period this year is not helping.

I don't buy the scheme thing. It's players performing badly. There's no scheme that dictates Rafalski and Kronwall put the puck on the stick of an opposing forward every other time they attempt a first pass out of the defensive zone. The scheme doesn't tell the penalty killers to make limp-wristed clearing attempts that have no chance of getting out of the zone. No scheme is responsible for all the passes that arrive in skates and the Hail Mary attempts that almost never connect and instead almost always result in a giveaway and an odd-man rush the other way.

Coaching shares in the responsibility of players not performing to their abilities right now. But I don't think the problems stem from a systemic problem; they're happening because of guys making bad plays.

But I don't remember us constantly spotting the opposition 3 or 4 goals repeatedly. And as a result, Jimmy's likely to finish the season with a 3.00+ GAA and a sub-.900 SV%.

Can we still get Nabby somehow?

After Nabby's bulls***, I don't want him, he could have left NYI at the end of the season and play with the Wings if he played 12 games, but he threw a temper tantrum and screwed himself, and I don't want a player like that. Suck it up, play your games, then you can go where you want.

Besides, he won't help as long as McCrimmon remains on the team.

I agree. I don't know about firing someone at this point but why not scrutinize the individual more with the media or whatever. If the players believe in him they'll have something to prove.
