Guest L3T5G0W1NG5 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 That I haven't seen a single "diving" call this season.

Hockey Convert 55 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 The league's off of that now; hits to the head are the new hotness. Not that I'm saying that's bad; just that they can only seem to handle one thing at a time.
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 They used to call them all the time, but now they don't even have the matching minors anymore. Diving is promoted in order for there to be more powerplays, hence more goals. Apparently, the casual idiot sports fan in America likes seeing goals. 1 Drake_Marcus reacted to this
kook_10 1,705 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Didn't they used to even fine people who weren't penalized during the game? Edited February 3, 2011 by kook_10
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 Didn't they used to even fine people who weren't penalized during the game? Yup. Added them to a "list" too. Repeated offenses would lead to suspensions. My bet is that certain players just dove too much and the league realized that they couldn't start suspending those players. GSBrooks13 204 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 For the life of me I can't remember which game it was, but just before the all star break I saw a diving penalty on a random boxscore.. I almost did a double take when I saw it.
5_Hole 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 Crosby is out, and Forsberg is semi-retired, that's why you haven't seen any dives. 7 edicius, HankthaTank, Hockeymom1960 and 4 others reacted to this

The "Diving" rule started waning when one Cindy Lee Crosby came into the league and became the poster child for abortion...er, I mean the NHL. He was diving all over the ice trying to rival Greg Luganis, and Uncle Gary and his NHL cronies couldn't go putting Crosby on the naughty list and suspending their poster child every week, hence the diving penalty became extinct. Love him or hate him, this is the reason that penalty disappeared. 1 edicius reacted to this

Could you ever see the league suspending Kariya for that part of his repertoire? See what I did there? But I do agree with LeftWinger, since that does really seem to be the same time that the crackdown on diving mysteriously disappeared. redwingmachine 189 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 They are going to turn the NHL into the NBA! One little elbow and the guy flies across the floor like he was hit by a truck.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 4, 2011 Last time I remember diving being called was Helm in the playoffs against Phoenix one game last season. I highly doubt we will ever see it called again. San Jose could've had at least 4, maybe 5 dives that first or second game against us in our playoff matchups. It's bush league yes, but if the refs aren't going to do squat about it, I wouldn't blame them for keeping on diving. Just another example of the officiating in this league in general having a head full of bricks.
