Peter Forsberg's(notedebut with the Colorado Avalanche is still delayed because of visa issues. Avalanche coach Joe Sacco says the 37-year-old center is in Canada clearing up logistical issues related to his visa. Sacco says he expects Forsberg to join the team by the end of the current road trip, which wraps up in Columbus on Friday and Nashville on Saturday.

you know back in the day I hated forsberg with a passion but really good on the guy for making a comeback to the game he loves so much. It really shows the dedication he has to the game. I kinda miss the old foppa cause he was sooooo sweet when he was lightin it up with the avs.

If he was "dedicated to the game", why does he wait until the season is 3/4 over to decide to make another comeback? Why can't he come to training camp like everyone else? So many of his seasons have been 9 games, 15 games, 3 games....I call bulls***.

He's got it down to a science now where he can just waltz through waivers too.

He's been injured. He's had issues with his foot/ankle. Maybe you missed that.

If he was healthy at the start of the season/pre-season do you really think he would have sat out the whole season instead of playing/practising and get back to form asap?

Then he would've played for Modo thus making him waiver eligible, and after seeing what happened to Nabby he wouldn't have done it.

You should mention how much you hate that rule again.

You guys really need to get some perspective.

What perspective? That the rule is poorly written? Everybody goes through waivers or everybody doesn't, simple as that.

The rule is clear. Players would only need to pass waivers if they had previously been signed to a professional hockey team that is not the NHL. Forsberg was not in that list (and do you honestly think Forsberg is even close to the same level the day before signing with the Avalanche as he would be if he played in the SEL this year?) and has no reason to pass waivers.

There is no advantage to the Avalanche trying to hide an unconditioned, injury prone Forsberg for use in the playoffs.

He was injured. He had issues with his foot. That's why he didnt sign any contract this year. He didn't even know if he could play at all this year. If he was healthy he would probably have played all season, don't you think?

Jesus christ, some people in this thread

I didn't say it was unclear, I said it was poorly written, and Forsberg is walking right through the loophole that poor writing has created. The rule's intent is to stop exactly what Colorado is doing, acquiring a ringer from europe in time for the playoffs that didn't have to go through waivers. His age and state of health are irrelevant. We're talkingabout Forsberg here, a proven NHL elite player not Jiri Whatshisface.

Forsberg is not, nor will he ever again be, part the NHL elite. HOF or NHL alumni elite? Sure, I guess. He's going to be a solid addition and if the same thing happened on the Wings, you'd be declaring Holland a genius.

The rule is to keep teams from hiding players in the Euro leagues, not to pick up previous retired players.

Any player, regardless of skill, is not going to be at the same level if he doesn't play competitively during the season. You are grasping at straws to compare the Nabokov ruling to this. They are not the same.

Then why do the Avs want him? Cause his play competitively sucks right now? Forsberg will be ready to play or the Avs wouldn't be doing this. Do you really think that he wasn't working out, skating and probably practicing with Modo? His ass should have to go through waivers.

He was not signed with a team. Forsberg did not play competitive games with another league. This part you refuse to understand. That is why they put that waiver rule in place. If your interpretation of how it SHOULD be was in place then any player that retired in any country would be subject to waivers, which is a complete crock.

Colorado can get plenty of butts in the seats and new jersey sales (Forsberg in the blue third jersey? yes please), and if he works out with the club long enough, he could be a depth asset in the playoffs. It is a calculated risk, but a risk nonetheless.

Forsberg never retired and it wasn't like he was just sitting at home eating chips. He's been working out/practicing enough to be able to start as soon as he joins the Avs. Again, if his ankle wasn't suspect he would've played for Modo this year. Whether or not his skates touched the ice in an actual game SHOULD be irrelevant.

Let us know when you take over for Bettman, until then I think you made your point. Really, Forsberg isn't going to make much difference except as a veteran who can share experience. Also do you realize you sign every thing you say even though your username and avatar identify you?

Whether he makes a difference or not remains to be seen and is also irrelevant. Forsberg is an experienced NHL player who should have to pass through waivers. The criteria the NHL uses to determine waiver eligibility for european players is retarded.
